May I bump this post to your recognition.
I have exactly the same problem with tonemapping on one of my older machines.
For what it's worth: Nvidia Geforce 750gtx and latest drivers.
Everything else is working reliable.
Great what you did to Ripbot in all of this years!
With minor tweaks it became my favourite workhorse
