It looks like the missing dependencies were what
ever core filters have been removed. I had
discounted that, thinking there would be more
informative error messages than just crash.
After dissecting the Authors.avs the offending
component turned out to be this:
messageclip(ovText, height=c)
A posted list of filters that are no longer
included in the core would have likely gone
a long way towards saving sanity.
