One thing that was never communicated there:
You cannot down-sample RGB, so if you're sending RGB, you always send full 4:4:4. Its quite certainly possible that your TV does not display that as RGB, but internally processes it as YCrCb 4:2:2, losing precision in the process, but if RGB goes over the HDMI bus, it will be 4:4:4 (such terms dont even apply to RGB)
