If you have Vista or XP, try installing Windows Media Player 11.
Also, try setting ffdshow video decoder for VC-1 to WMV9.
This worked for me for Watchmen.

I've found that if you have WMP 11 installed it is better to set the decoder to "disabled". That's the only setting that allows the WMV11 codec to be used.
