The thing with 3D is that even if you process it with the option to treat as 2D, that doesn't mean that the java code on the disc will allow it. Certain code can exist that enforces the need for a 3D capable playback device, regardless of the fact if BDRB made the video 2D or not. There's nothing BDRB can do about that.
