Another example for the miserable state off ffmpeg documentation:
-flags +ilme+ildct+alt -top 1
You still find this in the current ffmpeg online documentation, but since early 2012 the '-flags alt' paramter does not work any more. For current versions of ffmpeg you have to use '-alternate_scan 1' instead.
I still remember how long it took me to find this when WinFF was upgraded and used a newer ffmpeg version. And from all the different forum comments I can only assume that almost nobody uses ffmpeg for encoding interlaced content...
