And yet you're so much of a "fanboy" that you make the assumption that everyone using Xvid is using it because they have standalones: there couldn't possibly be any other reason.

1. There's much hardware that supports H.264 and not MPEG-4 ASP.
2. If he's encoding for standalones, he would have to deal with the issues of Qpel, GMC, B-frames, etc (which he didn't mention), so I assumed that...
3. He wasn't encoding for standalones (I think).

But I could be wrong.

(Also, despite apparently being an "x264 fanboy," I answered his question about xvid options and you didn't.)
