To shrink a 30Gb movie to 22Gb on High Quality setting my PC takes between 3.5 and 5 hours (Core i5 2500K, 6Gb RAM). The Phenom II X4 945 3GB is a slower system and 6 hours sounds about right. Most likely you've been using the Better (Faster) setting as
RobertM suggested.
