What mclingo meant is that there is/was (?) a bug affecting RX 5700 users, where if madVR itself switches the card to HDR mode, it then outputs Bt.709 colour space instead of Bt.2020, so the image is seriously (not slightly) undersaturated.
If you did not encounter this issue when you used passthrough and let madVR do the switch then it means something is different on your RX 5700 system, or the bug has been fixed.
