The VUK and the 'Hashed Keys' (maybe I'll abbreviate it to 'HK') are different formats, and HK is only compatible with MakeMKV currently.
The announcement post did however state 'no other software can read files in this format
so far' (emphasis mine) so I'm not sure if that's a challenge to other devs or if they'll open it up (though currently this feature does give MakeMKV an edge vs the outrageously expensive DeUHD).
The part in the announcement about the key being able to be read from a keydb.cfg or HK format is just regarding how MakeMKV can read it, afaik. In other words, now that MakeMKV supports reading two formats the user can use either one, but as of now only MakeMKV can read and convert to the HK format.
