3D isn't supported in BD-RB. It will be eventually -- but right now there really is no way to reencode to MVC. As for it appearing to be larger than the disc, that is how it should look on a 3D disc because some sectors are parts of more than one file and are therefore "double counted".

I should be able to do a non-3D backup of a 3D disc pretty easily -- maybe in one of the next couple of releases.

Wow!!! That was fast!!! Thank you for your lightning-fast response.

The option to copy only the non-3D version would be great.

Thank you again.

Have some problem with the old movie Twister. R2 European Universal release. I'm getting pixelation in "fast" scenes. The example is at ~1:42.35.

To me it seems to be generated in the encode phase. The original plays back fine with no pixelation at all.

Can someone who has this movie please do a test run so I know if the problem is only at my end or if this is a troublesome title. It could of course be a bad rip but how can I know if the original shows no errors? It's ripped with latest AnyDVD HD to folder. Settings in BD-RB as follows:

Anyway -- I got it working. I've made it so 320x240/180 and 480x360/270 each has a max bitrate of 768 (to support earlier models), 640x480/360 has a max bitrate of 1500 (to match the intermediate models), and higher resolutions have a max bitrate of 2500 (to match newer models).
@jdobbs

Sounds great. I look forward to trying it again on the next version. Mahalo jdobbs!

When pass 1 has been done in High Quality (Default) mode, can I change pass 2 to be done in Highest Quality mode, or would the stats file from pass 1 be invalid?
From x264 I get the warning 'direct=auto not used on the first pass'. Is this critical?

If you use 2 pass mode, then afaik the 1st pass is only used to thoroughly analyse the m2ts stream. The actual encoding is then done in the 2nd pass using the quality selection you made.

@LowDead;
It would probably be a good test to try it with x264 Internal LAVF for decoding unselected.
I seem to remember reading that some types of VC-1 files can be affected by it. ( not sure if this applies here, but it would be good to know if unselecting LAVF corrects this! )

Thanks for the tip! Will test overnight

Yes, but when I select "Automatic Quality Settings" DB-RB uses '--direct spatial' for pass 1 (i.e. the x264 default). When I change for pass 2 to "High Quality" DB-RB will set '--direct auto' AFAIK. x264 then discovers that '--direct...' has not been specified for pass 1 and defaults to '--direct temporal' and outputs a warning. DB-RB however permits to resume the job based on the stats from pass 1.
Should DB-RB in this case recommend to redo pass 1?

BD-RB always uses the same set of settings for pass 1 and pass 2 -- unless you change the quality setting between the two.

Yes, but it does the analysis using the settings you have specified. It is probably not a good idea to use different quality settings between the two passes.

CRF does an encode aiming at a specific quality level with a fairly unpredictable bitrate/size (depending upon the source). ABR does an encode aiming at a specific bitrate -- and the quality level is whatever can be reached in that bitrate/size.

Multiple pass is almost always ABR.

No. Neither is better than the other... they are just different. If you want to do one pass and don't care about the size -- you can just pick a quality level you'd like to keep and do a CRF encode. If you want to ensure your output is within a range (such as the size of a DVD) you choose ABR. Two pass ABR will usually give you the best quality you can get for a certain target size.

In BD-RB, there also is a routine that does sample passes using different CRF values to try and guess the output size -- but the accuracy is limited.

I recommend you choose "Automatic" and let BD-RB make all the decisions as to the best settings for encoding..

I would love if you actually implement the "Blank this item" function. Any plans to do it soon?

As the name says... it is "automatic" -- which means it sets the values (quality, passes, everything) to what is needed. It is explained in the "Frequently Asked Questions" sticky of this sub-forum.

Please... no more questions. This is supposed to be a bug reporting thread.

I seem to remember reading that some types of VC-1 files can be affected by it. ( not sure if this applies here, but it would be good to know if unselecting LAVF corrects this! )
@Capsbackup: Thank you very much, it worked perfectly.

@JDobbs: Is the LAVF only used for minor speed improvements or does it also improve quality in some cases?
