AviDemux (AvsProxy) startup error after reinstall

I upgraded to version 2.5.1 from 2.5.0. Later I decided to reinstall version 2.5.0. Now AvsProxy throws an error: An unhandled exception error has occured! Application will terminate...
any help would be much appreciated

Why did you downgrade to such an outdated version of Avidemux?

Anyway, make sure you get the latest AVS Proxy GUI from here:

Lord Mulder thank you so much!!
it worked

The reason I downgraded was because of a weird behavior
when encoding x264:

1) "Use as reference" (B-Pyramid) didn't work - AVInaptic and MediaInfo indicated it was disabled (set to "0").

2) Setting CRF to 21, resulted in an average quantizer of 26, while before it was around 23 (same clip, same settings)

BTW, Minor bug: pb_ratio was missing from "user data" info in the video stream.

The 2.5.1 version is the Windows installer from http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/download.html

Of course B-Pyramid doesn't work with latest x264 in Avidemux! That's because latest x264 uses MB-Tree RC, which doesn't support B-Pyramid yet and thus will ignore/disable B-Pyramid!

I highly recommend to use up-to-date Avidemux with up-to-date x264! MB-Tree is a huge step forward, the loss of B-Pyramid is bearable (and will be fixed soon).

BTW: If you really want to use B-Pyramid in up-to-date Avidemux/x264, you must disable MB-Tree RC. Avidemux has no option for that, but I provide libx264 builds with MB-Tree disabled.

Thanks for pointing that out to me, I didn't know about mbtree rc. Now that I've read a bit on the topic here, I will definitely upgrade to the up-to-date version of AviDemux

Cheers
