*face palm*

I don't know why I didn't think of that first one.

And that second one is a nice feature that you have added in the latest builds! Thanks for that!

That is definitely not true, because Sony players play multiAVCHD output. If it is related to the burning-part - I can't do anything.

This sounds like more of a burning issue than a conversion issue. What program are you using for your BD-RE burning? I recommend the free IMGBurn by LIGHTNING_UK!

I was able to fix the detecting avisynth, ffdshow, haali problems I had by rebooting after removing/installing multiavchd. I'm able to encode now directly from a read only source, thanks.

I noticed that the first 30 or so minutes was spent moving the 35 GB m2ts file from read only to temp directory, is this necessary?

Also I chose to keep subs but they weren't kept in the DVD output, I remember in the past multiavchd had problems finding java.exe for bdsup2sub.jar on 64 bit systems, could this still be the issue?

This is what the log says:

[15:37:46] Detected video: ID#0:V_MPEG-2 720x480, fps=23.976

I agree BD -> DVD is excellent quality, better then the retail DVD of the same movie. I've been doing this for quite a while now but it's a tedious task, this makes it incredibly easier however I need the ability to keep english subs.

My note few pages back about SD-DVD and subtitles mentioned that only external subtitles are supported (and internal when using files as sources).

When using playlists/BDMV-structures you'll need to have your subtitles prepared before you start the compilation. Extract the SUP/PGS and add it as an external subtitle track. It will be properly resized to DVD resolution and will be present in the DVD. One subtitle track supported anyway.

1/ Yes, it is needed to create ONE file from a blu-ray playlist in case it is branched and more than 1 m2ts file needs to be reencoded. If it is a 1:1 full-movie = 1 m2ts you can load the m2ts file and not the playlist.

2/ SD-DVD is 1-week-old feature in multiAVCHD with a lot of restrictions. I'll try to add subtitle support for (internal) Blu-ray playlist subtitles and probably more than one audio/subtitle track per SD-DVD title and less-probably multi-title support for SD-DVD. I just need more time, that's it.

@deank

Since other means of communication with you (at least by me) continue to be unsuccessful, I'll simply post the following, unedited:

I see that you've now added conversion (of just about anything ;>}) to standard DVD.

Other than branching off into other Operating Systems, I for one, can't think of anything else you could conceivably add (But somehow, I'm sure you will anyway). Therefore, I want to suggest to you that the multiAVCHD "package" has become rather weighty - and, perhaps somewhat foreboding in appearance and operation to those who may have just come to discover this remarkably efficient yet complex tool.

My quick suggestion is to modify the interface so that it appears as a tabbed notebook or looseleaf binder, with each tab representing one of the primary functions - and clicking on a tab would "turn the pages" to the proper input pages supported, if necessary, by sub-tabs.

Your thoughts please?

Okay, my first guide for using multiAVCHD to encode from Blu-ray to DVD has been published! Check it out here: http://adubvideo.net/how-to/converti...dvd-multiavchd

Edit: Okay, well, it seems like the third time was not the charm. I turned on the TrueHD/DTS-MA/HRA to option and the Convert DTS audio to AC3 option, and it appears that eac3to did not like that one bit.

Last but not least, the following deadlock appeared to occur within eac3to:

This was at the last resort tried by multiAVCHD and for some reason, as soon as it recognizes it needs a second pass, eac3to just stops working, with no detectable CPU usage.

I'm quite sure it can't be done with the tool I'm using (CalcIT - you can judge by its name it is an IT CALCULATOR ). Can you give me an example of an application, which uses such style?

The last thing you can do is to check the option [x] Core only in AUDIO tab of title-properties.

***

Few fixes:

* Bitrate estimations for HD and SD DVD will take into account only the 1st audio track and will calculate proper estimation

* In case SD-DVD mux fails with muxman, the log is printed and pop-up will ask you to edit the job file (muxman.job) with notepad, fix what may be wrong and let multiAVCHD retry with these changes.

* Transcoding will show estimated time-of-the-day (HH:MM:SS) when it is supposed to finish...

Adub congrats, your tutorial is terrific, thanks!

I'm still confused though about handling subtitles:

1. Not sure what "hardsubbing" means, i.e. I thought that was when you encoded subtitles into the video itself (where they are part of the video and can't be turned on/off)? Could you explain in your tut.

2. Also deank has said that BD subs must be imported as "external" or some such. If you can clarify what that means (and how to pre-process BD subs if necessary) that would help me as I remain confused about this after several failed attempts.

Thanks again!

I'll add support for BD subtitles but may be tomorrow or next week.

At the moment you need to open the m2ts file (or the playlist) of the main movie with tsMuxeR_GUI and *demux* the subtitle track you need.

Then in [title properties] there is [External subtitles] tab - you add your demuxed .SUP file there.

Hard-subbing is exactly what you think - encode the subtitles in the video, so no on/off function.

Dean

Thanks Dean for explaining. I was sure I'd tried this (demux & add as external) and it didn't work, but I will try again later this weekend with the new + version that has the muxman log (that's where mine failed, zero bytes in .IFO file).

I'm currently running an encode of my Ghost Rider Blu-ray disc. I demuxed the Bulgarian subtitles and added them as external. It worked 3 times already, but I'm trying it again.

I'll post the complete log later. It says it will finish in ~50 mins.

There will be an update later today - I removed the limit. I doubt you'll be able to fit the output to a DVD disc with such high bitrate, but may be I'm wrong. It is much better to use 2-pass with HCenc!

The update later includes a 'feature' requested by a user: To TOP-ALIGN uncompliant videos while uncropping - in other words not to add 2 black bars at top and bottom, but one huge black bar at the bottom of the video.

Also multiAVCHD.log is being flushed more frequently for easier bug-reports.

There are few other changes, but not that important atm.

It will fit. bare 1h 30' with AC3 at 448.
HCenc simply takes too much time on my PC.

BTW: I noticed that you removed Trellis for 1pass encoding

It took 5 hours and 30 mins to convert Ghost Rider from Blu-ray to DVD.

I trimmed the title just at credits start (saved ~ 7 mins) to raise the average bitrate of the movie, removed all audio tracks but the English 5.1 AC3 one, removed all subtitles, added external .sup (demuxed before compilation start) and used 2-pass HCenc MPEG2 encoding. The result is ~90 mb smaller than the expected DVD5, but it suits me well.

I used main movie m2ts file, since the movie is not spread among multiple m2ts files and there was no need to use the mpls file.

Dean
I'll add this to the guide sometime today.

Plus, deank, did you notice how multiAVCHD was telling eac3to to encode the video track to AC3 in my last bug post? Is this fixed or do you need more information?
