The USD price is usually roughly translated into GPB because of UK-rip-off and 20% VAT plus duty.

The 2080ti is on pre-order for around £1,200 (some up to £1,339, although there is a Gigabyte at £1,050) at Scan, the 2080 are around £1,000 (though prices start at £715 for a Palit)

Not that I would upgrade my 1080ti until they offer a model with HDMI 2.1, as discussed.

Am I missing something here, what has HDMI 2.1 got over DisplayPort 1.4? I've still got a 980ti which is pretty horrendous on a 4K monitor when using MadVR and the newer options, so i'm tempted to see what the 2080Ti brings... but not at £1100!

TVs or Projectors don't typically have DisplayPorts, with rare exceptions.
HDMI 2.1 also has some more bandwidth, although the bandwidth difference between the two is probably not that significant for most users quite yet (48G HDMI 2.1 vs 32.4G DP 1.4 - HDMI 2.0 is 18G). For example, you can run 4K 144Hz over HDMI 2.1, but not over DP 1.4 (without compression).

My HTPC is definitely waiting for a HDMI 2.1 card as well so I can get 4K 60Hz RGB in 10/12-bit. But it currently runs a 1060, so any of the revealed models would be super overkill anyway, and HDMI 2.1 TVs aren't quite available yet either.

The lack of HDMI 2.1 and the price point floating around for Uk/europe mean its not the time for me to update either. It looks to me that nvidia are pricing themselves outside the market while not using the latest specs. I'll prob end up moving from my 980 to a 1080ti when those prices drop (or a 2070 if thats HDMI 2.1).

Well I'm hoping to upgrade from my 1060 so I can do some better scaling on 1080 material (and hopefully better chroma on 2160).

If not the 2000 series cards then perhaps a cheap used 1080ti when gamers start switching over.

Does anyone know why so long ago the author of MadVR did not appear in this forum?

MadVR's last update was three months ago, on April 23, the last Madshi post is dated 30th May.
Previously, he was usually incredibly active.

Has something happened?
Аor example, he lost interest in the project or is preparing a big coup in the form of a paid version?

Or just unusually busy on the main job?

He hangs out at AVSForum, where the rules are actually enforced and trolls/bullies are not tolerated.

That may be true (I don't know either way), but is that actually the reason? He's mostly been active in this thread which is about a particular topic (improving HDR tone mapping).

People get busy with other things. He put a lot of work into one topic that likely required a lot of research and trial-and-error to produce a solution. Almost no one has provided feedback on that feature in this forum, so he converses in another forum where development is able to continue at a regular pace.

So not that abnormal and development continues.

I didn't say it was the reason and obviously don't speak for madshi. Warner306 is quite right pointing out that he gets better feedback at AVSForum. I was merely making an auxiliary observation about the difference between the two sites.

Madshi is busy with commercial work at the moment, and when he has a bit of spare time he is working on improving the HDR to SDR conversion over at AVS Forums simply because someone started a thread on the subject there and there are more people interested in this improvement as it's primarily for A/V enthusiasts. It also allows to focus on this in a single thread.

There should be a new public build soon, and I'm sure Madshi will post back here as well, as it remains the main thread for MadVR.

Do not feel abandoned, it's all for the best

Please make it possible to have "Add Grain" always active, without the upscaling dependency.
Maybe, put an extra "add grain" option to the "image enhancements" section.

Actually really surprised that nobody mentioned back when it was added. Can't see why this wouldn't make it in.

madVR always puts a big smile onto my face. It's unbelievable nice what NGU (very sharp) can do to relative clean 1080p recordings upscaled to a 2160p screen. It's time to say thank you to madshi for such a nice video renderer. It looks like madshi is also the king of optimization. My 1080 GTX can do NGU doubling to 4k res in combination with edge sharpening, detail enhancement and error diffusion dithering in around 28 ms. That's enough for every 23 or 24 fps movie and even for 29 fps videos.

What is not working for me is the custom resolution functionality on Windows 10 1803.

More than likely the Nvidia drivers you are using, I rolled back to 390.xx and all is good, some get success with CRU and the likes, but rolling back fixed it for me.

Can someone explain

MPC-HC shows P010 10 bit 4:2:0
PotPlayer shows NV12 8 bit 4:2:0

This is same video with same settings (Lav video decoder and Madvr video render). Is there any particular reason that I'm seeing different results?

You're using LAV with MPC-HC while playing 10 bit content it's using P010 which it should, Potplayer is using internal filters? and is either not using p010 because it's doing some sort of postprocessing or it's disabled.

Potplayer is using Lav filters.
Not sure what seem to be the problem. Downloading few more HEVC encoded videos to test it now.
Edit: nope potplayer still shows everything NV12
