It's cool, great help for new users.
It's with your site + videos I discovered Avisynth.

Maybe, you could write the links in real text in the comments (and why not the whole text for printing), so people can just copy/paste, instead of copy links by hand from the video.

Btw, did you publish a recent version of your script, or the one you talk about in The power of Avisynth: new 8mm film restoring examples? I'd be very curious to try the "modern" version. Especially this sharp-blur-sharp thing .

As your are here, j'en profite: did you try the Stainless's Spotless+Zorr's "details recaller" script?

That should be "too bad". /grammar_cop

But is there only a single Universe? Without that your location is ambiguous. It's a reasonable question.

I have tried Spotless vs. RemoveDirtSMC and RemoveDirtSMC was a little bit better in removing (very)big spots.

The more people can get used to coding in Avisynth, the merrier and if YouTube is the platform to make people more involved, that's totally fine!
I'm in favor of anything that makes the community grow, so... well done!

Nice words, I agree that one must leave a legacy to the new generations, this is how all knowledge evolves. Thank you very much videofred.

Hi Videofred,
As always, thanks for sharing your work. It really helps us newbies. One question: in your tutorial on your web site, you mention that you use "paraffin" as the liquid in your "wet-gate" system. Here in the U.S. paraffin refers to a type of wax, usually used in candles. I suspect this is not what you are using. Is there a more specific term for the liquid? Could you even say where you obtained this? I have done some research and professional systems use something called tetrachloroethylene which is very toxic and hard to work with so any more user-friendly solution would be great.

Thanks.

Thank but I don't think I'll be using kerosene. Too dangerous. However, someone else mentioned something called Filmguard which might work (http://www.film-tech.com/products/filmguard.php). You just need something that has a similar index of refraction to the celluloid used in the film. Anyway, I will try the Filmguard and see how it works.

This is what I use for the wetgate (or better: Fredgate )

Translation from Dutch:
wasbenzine: cleaning spirit ; cleaning fluid ; dry-cleaning naphta

This product is not very dangerous. But always be careful with open fire of cource.

I'm using it for more than 10 years now, it will not harm your films.

Fred.

Yes: liquid paraffin.

At the pharmacist, it is used for medical purpose also.
I have often used it for my cat when she was constipated

I agree: tetra is dangerous, do not use it!
The same for perchloroethylene!

Hi StainlessS,

It's not white spirit for sure.
Maybe this wil help, look at the left 'pure benzin' column:
http://www.super-8.be/Doom/wasbenzine.pdf

As you see, in the UK it is called 'pure benzin' 'coleman fuel' and/or 'white gas'

many greetings,
Fred.

Coleman fuel is still quite common here. The term "white gas" was also used, although I haven't heard that since the early 1960s. It used to be used for lawnmowers and other small engines, and was then used for small camping stoves, before propane tanks became more common. At least in this country (the USA), it is simply gasoline without any additives to change the ignition point.
