MPC-HC - playback speed to more than 4x

MPC-HC won't increase playback speed to more than 4x.
I use the shortcut keys ctrl + up arrow to increase speed. The video will get to 4x and go no further.
I pretty much exclusively use .ts files.
It is not the files, as the very same files in VLC can increase to way beyond 4x.
How do I further increase playback speed in MPC-HC?
using 1.8.6.11 but had the same issue with an earlier version

You can solve it by using the internal audio renderer.
options > playback > output

After that maximum speedup is only limited by the performance of the video decoder. In some cases software decoding can be faster than hardware accelerated decoding.

Nice, thanks, I didn't know this either.

Thanks, that's perfect.

Besides this, are there any other differences between using the "system default" and the "internal audio renderer"?

You can use exclusive mode with it. (Search back for it.)
Note that MPC-BE has different implementation of its audio renderer, I prefer that one.

It has WASAPI output.
It also does pitch correction when speeding up video.

So what are the advantages of the "System Default" renderer?

No advantages in terms of features. But it probably has less bugs.

Sound-distorting bugs, subtle stuff, or more obvious problems?

I'm guessing there's no way to assign a sound renderer per each number of input channels?
For example, automatically use System Default for 5.1, and the internal renderer for stereo.

Why do you prefer MPC-BE's?

They put a lot of effort into their Wasapi implementation, properly supporting Exclusive mode, including releasing device on stop/pause even in bitstream mode.

There are no obvious or big issues that I am aware of.

Exclusive mode is not an important feature, as the system mixer can also be bypassed without it.
