Like I said before I have some DV tapes to convert to DVD. I find it nice to have the titles fading in/out. The default is 0.4 sec. I searched for it in the registry but it seems to be hard coded. Would it be possible to store this value in the registry/prefs so one wouldn't have to change it on every title?
Another thing is that the default gets displayed as 0,4 on my language settings (German) and that is invalid for the check...

Hi MrC,

I just encoded a project, but it failed to encode on 1 of 4 menu pages, so that the file size for this asset is 0 kb which led to an muxing error. I was asked whether I want to keep the temp files. They are still there but not the avs files. Is there a way to resume the menu creation and the muxing?

Hi ggtop,

yes, there is a way: delete the project log file from your Output Folder, then start again your project (assuming you have saved it ). You will be asked if you want to keep the DVD asset files. Then, if you want to take a look at the menu avs script, go to the Temp Folder just before AVStoDVD asks you to keep or delete the asset files.

Great, you saved my day ;-)
I did like you told me and it worked exactly how I desired. I was prompted for each asset to overwrite or to keep. I only agreed to the previously failed asset file and A2D continued to mux. Output is fine ;-)

I think this happened because I had my laptop under heavy i/o and QuEnc din't get the path and the input file passed in a certain time so stupid windows told me QuEnc isn't working properly and has to be closed/debugged...

What does it mean when I'm asked to create a Layer Break position? I've been trying to burn dual-layer DVDs, and I got no clue what this step's asking me.

I made a DVD that had one glitch, a hiccup/stutter, and I'm wondering if this Layer Break had something to do with it. I don't want any hiccups.

A DL (double layer) has 2 layers in which the data is written. The layer break is the point where the laser of your drive goes from one to the other layer. Mostly there are multiple options to choose that point. Some drives are quicker than others...and you also have the option to make it seamless but that is not by default and not all stand-alones can handle that.

Since this is a very basic question I suggest to simply use the search function at doom9. There are propably thousands of threads dealing with this topic.

AVStoDVD (Temp/Assets folders) and CCleaner (Custom "Include" directories)

So for the past couple days, I've encountered a problem. It's been fixed. But thought I should share this anyway. (In case someone else gets the problem in the future)

In the program settings for A2D, I've set the Temp/Assets folder to custom locations.
(And this has been working fine in the past)

But I also use CCleaner to clean my computer of junk files and decided to "Include" the Temp/Assets folders to CCleaner.
I like to keep the files until I'm completely satisfied with the project. (Or save them to reuse them for later, just in case).
When I'm happy with the project results, I clean the folders.
I used to do this manually, until I added the folders to CCleaner.

Now here's where the problem comes in...

The options (for CCleaner) for custom folders ask you whether you want "files only", "files and subfolders" or "files, subfolders and the folder itself"
I chose "files and subfolders", thinking it meant scan the files and subfolders.
But it actually deletes the files and the subfolders.

When the assigned Temp/Assets folders are deleted and you run A2D, A2D can't find the folders.
Unlike some programs, it doesn't re-create the Temp/Assets folders by default.
Since it doesn't recreate them, it can't find the designated folders; thus, it really has no place to store the Temp/Asset files.
And when this happens, it can't Frameserve properly.

Solution:
I always check to see if it frameserves properly before encoding.
With the Temp/Assets folders deleted, it gives you an error notification, instantly.
Simply create the assigned folders again and it should be fixed.

It wasn't until I re-installed A2D and did a CClean, that it dawned me to check CCleaner's settings. And voila, it was there. >.>

Also had to add each folder, both Temp and Assets, into the "Include" list in CCleaner.
And things are back to normal!!

On a side note:
MKVtoolnix updated to version 5.0.0.
FFmpeg updated to FFmpeg-N-32754-g936d4d4
MediaInfo upated to 7.50

In some cases, you don't really need to update (as some changes might be just a simple bug for a different operating system).

And the above updates seem to be compatible with the latest stable release of A2D 2.4.1 (August 16th, 2011).

(I always try and replace the original installed files with updated files. This seems to work without too much trouble, except sometimes for MKtoolnix. Thankfully, MrC has fixed this problem )
(_Backup folders are created in case of complications).


And that's about all I wanted to report, lol.

In the next AVStoDVD release I will add a consistency check on the Temp/Asset default folders, with the prompt to create them if not found.

I have some good news for you. A music video fan has been trying to create a DVD with PCM audio tracks. In trying to help I tried every program I could find, none of them would let me either mux an m2v with pcm or author a DVD with PCM.
Yours was the only one which provided an option for "wav". Thanks for this! However, when opening an audio track, files of type wav are not shown. If I pick *.* I can force it to load, but I haven't yet tested if it really works.
The suggestion is to include *wav in the file mask if indeed this really works.
I do have another request, I'd like to support adding closed caption files (in .scc format) if possible, then it would be the only free authoring program I know that supports CC, and/or pcm data.
From what I gather, this requires the ability to mux user data into the mpeg, and finally to set a flag in the output IFO.

not sure about the "file mask" you are referring to. If you add your m2v video file, then press 'Title'/'Audio Track'/'Add Audio Track', wav type files are already included in the filter list, and you can pick them up.

About SCC subs, I'm not familiar with them. I've found some info here, but I do not have any SCC sample. Could you provide one?

Some tech stuff, this is added per frame to mpg user data.
closed caption file format (.scc) which consists of the time code followed on the same line by a sequence of sets of 4 HEX codes representing the actual closed captioning data that will be added to the picture header user_data. This is CEA 608 standard. Only two codes per frame. user data field will start with 02 09

Another way
Up to 30 codes in each GOP. The first bytes in the user data field will be 43 43 01 f8 9e

very interesting, thanks for the tech info I would like to have some free time to write a parsing library for SCC format... but... have you already used the SCC Tools command line utils? Do they work properly? If yes, it would be much more easier to use "ccasdi.exe" to convert scc to srt and then return to standard path (srt to sup conversion with SubtitleCreator).

Of course, by that method, we would lose all formatting info contained in scc (if any).

I agree, there's already good tools to prepare CC and convert to SCC. All you need to support is muxing the SCC into MPG - there's hardly any parsing to do.
I have a feeling you are not understanding CC - these are not subs, they are never turning into bitmaps, just pure hex data put into the mpg stream. It's the TV only which displays them. The dvd player doesn't (usually) understand them, but puts the data into the video signal untouched.

You also have to set a flag in the IFO file.

I have never gotten CC to work in DVD. IFOedit doesn't let me set the flag, and ccmux didn't seem to work.

Probably I have not As I told you I am not familiar with CC. I have to spend some time to deepen a little bit. But, what is the real benefit to use CC instead of standard DVD subs? The possibility to equip single mpg files other than DVD structures? Wouldn't be easier to go with Matroska in these days?

Aha, I see you are from Italy. Let me explain the importance of CC in some countries. Well, for USA it is a requirement for all TV's to show these kind of captions. It's primary use is for the hearing impaired people, however it is also quite popular for those who want to read another language (for example reading english and hearing it also). It is sent on TV programs, you can also record into mpg. This is put on DVD for some reason too; it's cheaper to keep it the way it is, if the source already had CC, and to prevent importing of DVD, because CC is not decodable in Europe.
I want it because I have no other way to create this signal.

OK, I have some sort of audio issue with one of my MKVs. I get Process aborted during title 1 audio (track 1) encoding operations.

Can't see anything odd with the file though? Any ideas? Fresh install of AVS and most settings on default. Codec issue maybe?
