OK, that seems like the only trustable solution here. Too bad you have to open/close the Preview "movie" a couple of hundred times....

Seriously, I dunno, I thought there were so many different tools avaliable that do it correctly ? StaxRip's method works correctly. MeGUI's autocrop works too (A miracle, since it's about the only thing about it that DOES work)

mplayer way for detectcrop and megui/automkv AND even staxrip is very similar

every program will analyze some frames (picked all along the movie) and will detect crop

i "may" suppose that et start/END of your file there are some strange black bars...

EDIT: maybe i found your cause of oversize.. please try this build http://www.64k.it/andres/data/automen/AutoMen34a.exe

First of all, just because something look black at your screen doesn't mean that it is really black in the digital world. There are different level of compression for colour (YV12, YUY2 etc) and it is also possible that some noise are involved which might confuse MPlayer in what cropping value that will work best. Then it is possible that there is a logo or subtitle that is interfering with black vs film border. In other words, it is better to make sure that you crop the correct picture.

AVI container do have an overhead which might be part of the problem as MENcoder was designed to work with AVI containers from the very beginning and not MP4 or any other containers of today. That is why you will also see all this "junk" in target folder after MENcoder have first made sound and audio encoded material directly into an AVI container and then need to de-mux it into another container after transcoding are finished.

AVI overhead

Hi buzz,

Perhaps you could check AutoMKV too, it suffers from the same problem

Buzz,

Is it possible to make a profile that would play in my cell phone with 320 x 240 display? It is an Sony Ericsson P1i and should handle both MP4 and 3GP containers with Xvid and AAC sound. From MediaInfo I get this info for a file that work in my phone. It might be better to use a lower FPS to save some work load during play back of file, but it looks good on display. I would prefer stereo for AAC LC sound as this file seem to be mono (only one channel).

I have tried to change PSP and make use of Xvid profile without any luck. Would be great if you could help me out of this.

update to 3.5 , link in first post

fixed: bitrate computing now take overhead in account
added: copy audio for XVID and FF4 profile

@blizard

actually i use this "profile" for my Nokia E65
Code:
"mencoder.exe" -vf harddup,crop=720:432:0:72,scale=320:-3,hqdn3d -sws 2 -priority idle -o "_aaa_automen.avi" -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=552:pass=1:turbo:max_bframes=0:vhq=1:me_quality=6:chroma_me:chroma_opt:hq_ac:trellis:lumi_mask:bvhq=1 -nosound "_aaa.vob"
"mencoder.exe" -vf harddup,crop=720:432:0:72,scale=320:-3,hqdn3d -sws 2 -priority idle -o "_aaa_automen.avi" -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=552:pass=2:max_bframes=0:vhq=1:me_quality=6:chroma_me:chroma_opt:hq_ac:trellis:lumi_mask:bvhq=1 -nosound "_aaa.vob"
mplayer "_aaa.vob" -quiet -vc null -vo null -ao pcm:fast:waveheader:file=audio.wav
normalize.exe audio.wav
enc_aacPlus.exe audio.wav audio.aac --cbr 64000 --lc
"mp4box.exe" -add "_aaa_automen.avi"#video -add "audio.aac"#audio -keep-all -fps 25.000 "_e65.mp4"
i must use enc_aacPlus.exe because audio done by mencoder isn't fully compatible ..

anyway i am looking for a new way to handle profiles (but it's a long term project)

Where can I find enc_aacPlus.exe? I can only find different references to outdated storage places and I don't wish to install winamp, if that is possible to avoid.

So far I have mange to get a Xvid encoded picture to show after forcing output in resize of 320:240 (didn't work with 320:-2) in your profile for Xvid.bat. It seems to be that sound is not working when encoded in MEncoder. I can play this video on all other player on my computer (FFDSHOW/VLC w FFMPEG), so I think there is some limits to how my phones capabilities to decode AAC work. H.264 doesn't work well at all, but did show some jumpy picture with a podcast that was encoded in H.264, so my phone should be able to use some features of H.264 as long as it is light on resources to decode.

All those expriments was done with MP4 container.

I will try out your setting from nokia later, but for now it seem to be that I only need to get sound to work.

Thank you for your effort to help me in finding out these matter.

Do you thing it'll possible to select a txt file (inluding the name of all the files to encode), then select parameters (sames for all the files) then click a DoIt button and Automen encode all the files ?
I Ask this because i have 2800 files :-)

Thanks for all

I am single pass mp4. With the progressive filter.

Here is the command line from mp4.bat file and the result:

update 3.7 http://www.64k.it/andres/data/automen/AutoMen37.exe

FIXED: Deblock (with D capitalized). only happen on 1 specific profile ) thanks to weaver4
ADDED: Support for List of file.
Drag and drop a file.txt with your file to encode (do this by dir /S/B *.vob > list.txt for example) and the same settings will be applied to all files (suggestion by bowo)
