Mhm, for me it does work. However it seems to be a bit slow. Could you please upload also your "versions" block of the log?

would it be possible to implement better x265 GUI support? currently you can only choose between the presents or use the cmd line. there are no nice windows with knobs to play with (for people unfamiliar with the cmd line options) like there are in case with x264

I believe, previously Zathor hesitated to implement more basic parameters while x265 was in heavy development, and the set of command line options changing a lot. Already in v2.4 now, I hope that the most common parameters are quite stable now, I would dare him to be a little bolder too.

It doesn't really make much sense. There are a bazillion "knobs". People who are too lazy to read the documentation and just want "to play" will only shoot themselves in the foot.

Then why did it make sense to support so many for x264?

I don't recommend to implement all of them. There is still the "custom command line". But a few commonly used, similar to x264, could be added?

Who said it did?

(though I believe x265 is more complicated than x264)

well "to play" was rather poorly worded. Im just looking for some rather basic stuff like deblocking options to set, number of reference frames and blu-ray compatibility. these could be useful even for people knowing not that much about encoding.

I'll confess I like the way the advanced options are implemented in the x264 encoder configuration, because when you change a speed preset or tuning etc the appropriate advanced options are changed to their new defaults, making it easy to see which settings they use. If ever I need to know for some reason but I can't remember, that's where I look.

Hi Zathor, I hope you're well . Please, would you return "L-SMASH Works" as an indexing option for VC-1 video? It used to be possible but currently it's grayed-out. Thank you.

Sadly it is disabled as it is not working anymore:

That's interesting. Some years ago (Edit: it was May 2015) when I first tried to encode VC-1 video with MeGUI I had trouble with both FFMS and L-SMASH. Muxing the VC-1 as an .mkv led to artifacts in the output using either indexer. However, after much trial and error, I learned that muxing VC-1 as a .ts file then indexing with L-SMASH output artifact-free video (not the case with VC-1/.ts and FFMS; this output still had artifacts). So that's been my goto method for VC-1 sources. It's been about a year since last I did this, but a couple new-to-me Blu-rays are VC-1 and I'm again encountering artifacts using FFMS and .mkv. I realize that this isn't an issue with MeGUI, and it might not even be an issue with FFMS but instead an issue with my specific setup (multi-threading, perhaps?). If it comes to it I could single-thread any new VC-1 sources, but I'd prefer not to. Is there any way in MeGUI you can still have VC-1 video defualt to FFMS but also allow L-SMASH as an option? I find myself curious to check if VC-1/.ts/L-SMASH still works for me. Or is there any way you know to index a VC-1/.ts with L-SMASH independent of MeGUI (not to veer off-topic ). Thanks for your help.

LouieChuckyMerry,
Both FFMs and L-Smash will index automatically if no index file is found. Simply create a script yourself such as
LWLibavVideoSource("D:\video.mkv")
and video.mkv will be indexed the first time you run it.

Are you limiting ffms2 to a single thread (there's an option in MeGUI's settings)? In my experience it fixes a lot of ffms2 problems. ie
FFVideoSource("D:\video.mkv", threads=1)
and remove any fpsnum & fpsden stuff MeGUI is adding to the script for ffms2 if you haven't tried it already.

I'll try this as soon as I can demux then remux the videos as .ts files. Thanks .

Update: After indexing several of the VC-1/.ts files with FFMS, then changing the "LoadPlugin()" line from ffms2.dll to LSMASHSource.dll and the "FFVideoSource" to "LWLibavVideoSource", I ran some 2000 frame Trim tests. The results are great, no artifacts. So, as a workaround I created a new profile by adding these lines to an existing profile and renaming it accordingly. I still hope that Zathor is willing to return "LSMASHWorks" as a non-default option for VC-1 video .

FFMS is limited to a single thread and I'll run a Trim test with the fpsnum and fpsden and threads additions removed. Thanks for the idea.

Update: I'll run some tests ASAP and post the results.

UpdateUpdate: I was finally able to run some tests. An FFMS/.ts combination resulted in much more (and worse) artifacts, with or without the fpsnum and fpsden and threads addition; an FFMS/.mkv combination resulted in the same artifacts (and frequency), with or without the fpsnum and fpsden and threads addition. Also, the results were the same regardless of indexing the source with video and audio or only video. Still, thanks for the thought . Ahhh, were you suggesting removing the "fpsnum" and "fpsden" additions but keeping the "threads" bit?

MeGUI sometimes completly crash for me when I encode some audiofiles.
It does preparation fine, the encode is fine, even the final outputfile is complete and plays fine, but the finish step makes MeGUI crash. For some reason not always.
Currently I observe it for mp3 and ac3 output and 32-Bit and 64-Bit version of MeGUI.
The log is not that helpful, it ends at the encoding step:
Code:

So maybe the Crashdmp ist somehow more helpful. I uploaded here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/nyseurmttn...13204.dmp?dl=1

The avs Script just looks like that:
Code:
avisource("utvideo.avi").Assumetff()
ConvertToYV12()

__film = last
__t0 = __film.trim(67380, 75020)
__t0
