If RDNA2 won't be fast enough then they will sell it cheaper and there you go, we got a competitive product It's all about the price.
About nvidia, I'm still shocked about the >=320W power consumption. What will happen 2 years later?!

Exactly that is driving me crazy for the past week.

And 10% plus performance of the 3090 over the 3080 for 1500€ vs. 700€ ...

I'm not buying a 3090 that's for sure. I want a 3080 founders edition.

Its all about available price, genuine features and stable performance, not gimmicks, marketing tricks and manufactured hype.

Cause I don't think they're terrible. The new cooler design is effective and performance seems to be slightly above some of the tested AIB cards so far. I have a 2070 FE that I love.

so a cheaper card that has massively lower temps and notable lower rpm on the better cooler is not clearly better?

it'S normal for the memory to reach 104 on a 3080 FE... that 6 missing for thermal throttling while even early tested cheap AIB are at 60-70.

the 2000 series was worse you pay 100 extra for a relative bad cool and pretty much no chance to re paste the card because the construction is terrible.

there are some good niche things about them. it's easy to get a water block and the VRM are never bad for extreme over clocking. but that's it the cooler performance is underwhelming the price is a joke and the construction an insult.

The FE with its industrial design looked good at first, and its still the best FE NVIDIA ever made, but at least the better AIB cards beat it by a rather large margin still both on temps and noise. Not sure about entry-level AIB cards.

asus tuf was tested and it has a MSRP at 700 (not that it means anything at the moment sadly) and it was better at pretty much every metric sometimes by quite a margin. the VRM are technically worse but that doesn't matter if you are not going to like sub zero overclocking which was for obvious reason not tested (FE could win there).

The asus cards are on my list. Right now availability is what matters most to me. But I'm seriously considering the tuf of tuf oc if I can find one. I could end up with a zotac for all I know. Lol

I don't own JRiver so can't tell, but I'm using ReClock which works on the same principle, and if I install a new driver that changes the display mode timings I have to clear ReClock's timings database so it can re-learn the clock timings of the new driver. If I don't do that it doesn't sync correctly. Maybe JRiver needs something similar.

I'm not shocked, they used the biggest die usually reserved for the TITAN, they're just selling it to more reasonable price. In the past that spot in the portfolio was taken by the dual GPU cards that were sold for about the same price and had 300+ TDPs too. The better (i.e. liquid) cooled version of Vega 64 was 345W.
It's not ideal, but nothing we've not already seen. (Edit: now, of course the problem NVIDIA possibly has is performance/watt, the reviews of the 3070 will be interesting)

Well, the previous 3 gen Titans (Maxwell, Pascal, Turimg) were 250W this is 80W more, that's huge! And the 3080 corresponds to the xx80Ti that have even less W.
I don't think that the 3070 will be weak, these cards are beasts

thanks for the 23p reports i had to two times purge the driver to get it working correctly on my system again. this should maybe be remembered so a user with bad "timing" can try to DDU to fix this.

at the second try i used the none DCH driver.

I really DON'T LIKE the news/leaks/rumors regarding the upcoming Big Navi release.

It seems, according to many rumors, that second best RDNA2 based die will have 40CUs - the Navi22
This is exactly the same number of CUs as RDNA Navi10 die of 5700.

But we already know that 3080 is around 100% faster than 5700 XT

So we need what AMD promised for the Big Navi - Navi21- the x2 die of Navi10 which means 2x40 = 80CUs
This seems to be impossible to happen if Navi22 is 40CUs.
If, eventually, the Big Navi release goes like this:
1) Big Navi21 -> 60-64 CUs
2) Navi22 -> 40 CUs
3) Navi23 -> 32-36 CUs

then it's probably going to be a fiasco.

What IPC gain and clock increase is required for the RDNA2 vs RDNA in order to reach Ampere using the above number of CUs ?

It doesn't look feasible to reach Ampere's performance using this number of CUs.

Using latest nvidia driver and the HDR isn't 100% fixed. The gui menu still takes me out of HDR without exclusive fullscreen even when set to 8 bit in madvr and nvidia.
Also Im getting new bugs like when minimizing mpc running a HDR movie, my TV gets really weird colors, until I close the app or go fullscreen again.

I tried to reinstall twice using DDU.

Iíve been a long time MadVR user and Iíve always used it paired with a Nvidia GPU. Most recently a 2080Ti, which I sold 3 months ago while prices were still favorable.

The lack of supply for the 3080 (and overpriced 3090 and gimped 10 GB model rather than 20 GB) has me thinking of an AMD 6900XT.

Iím sure itíll be fine for 60+ fps gaming and VR for my son ó but the only thing I care about is MadVR for 1080p to 4k upscaling and 4K HDR to SDR conversion. Am I giving anything up in MadVR by going with AMD over Nvidia from a MadVR perspective?

I have a JVC x790 and 120Ē Stewart G4 130.

it's a card that does not exist so we don't know currently AMD can do about 99 % of all feature nvidia can do.

if you are using the option send BT.2020 to control the wide gamut filter then this will be lost. until madshi adds it if i can be added and that could take a while.

i would personally think more about gaming issue than madVR issues with amd.

I've been a happy AMD user for... ever!

Currently rocking a 5700XT.

As huhn said, there is the report 2020 thingy, but I have no idea what it is used for and I can say my OLED paired with the 5700XT works flawlessly

Same as QB and I am coming from a 1080. As for madvr I did not had to change any settings when switching to the 5700XT (I never used send Bt2020 with my JVC 7900).

Upgrading the gpu with more power for madvr might be still beneficial but I doubt it would be a big wow effect and most non pixel counting users most likely would not even recognize it

Next to already mentioned still supported 3D I just recently discovered that AMD driver has a build in support (ReLive for VR) to enable VR glasses like my Oculus Quest headset to play PC VR games like Half Live wirelessly which works really great and is an additional plus on the AMD side in regards to my personal needs.

If I would update it would be just for gaming and most likely it would be one of the upcoming AMDs. Being able to use higher settings in madvr would be just a side effect. But to be honest I am not in a hurry since I am really happy with my setup atm
