Seeking clarification on 'iods' box legality

Clarification is sought regarding the legality of an 'iods' box within an MP42 file.

The 'iods' box was first presented within the MP41 file format (ISO/IEC 14496-1, Systems, chapter 13) but was excluded from the ISO Base Media File Format (ISO/IEC 14496-12).

The MP42 file formats for MPEG-4 and H.264 streams are defined by ISO/IEC 14496-14 (MP4 File Format) and ISO/IEC 14496-15 (Advanced Video Coding (AVC) File Format) respectively. The 'iods' box is clearly defined by 14496-14 as an addition to 14496-12 whilst 14496-15 makes no mention of the 'iods' box.

Based upon these facts I have concluded that the 'iods' box is legal for MPEG-4 MP42 files but not for H.264 MP42 files (on the basis that 14496-15 defines additions to 14496-12). Can anyone else confirm this?
