multiAVCHD - author Blu-ray/AVCHD (Blu-ray players, camcoders, Viera TV) + (HD) DVD

I'm trying to do a test right now, but only have one of the media properties that will be used on the disc. The other two are being encoded.

When in the properties for the single piece of media, none of the changes that I do are kept, even after clicking on the save button. The poster image file name is reset to nothing, the chapter list file that I imported is reset to nothing, the title text is reset to the default.

After I do the save, I dismiss the dialog box and if I go back into the properties, the above is what I see. EXTREMELY ANNOYING.

I noticed that when I had multiple properties. in that if I change something with one of them, save it, dismiss the dialog box and come back to it later, the changes I made were gone.

But, if I have more than one property, while in the property dialog box, if I change to a different media file, the changes to the other property are now kept after doing a save.

I just tested the above theory by adding the same piece of media. Changing the first one and then going to the second while in the property dialog box, the changes are kept. Now a save can be done.

The single property issue needs to be fixed.

I can easily remove the text from the title list thumbnails, but the black background with the horizontal gray lines above and below the black background is still there.

How do I get rid of that black background? The poster images that I have contain all of the information that I want. I don't see a setting for getting rid of the black background.

I would try the background tweaks on the Menu/Advanced tab or the background image box & transparency slider on the Menu/General tab. I'm very rusty on the multiAVCHD setting as I haven't use it for months. It looks like multiAVCHD is abandon-ware (I hope not).

IIRC, the tweaks you are pointing only screw with the overall background image, not the generated thumbnails used in the title list.

I just don't see anything specific to the title list thumbnails.

It looks like multiAVCHD is abandon-ware (I hope not).

It is certainly beginning to look that way, doesn't it. Dean's domain is even down. The deanbg.com server is not responding.

(Pardon me if this has been asked before.)

I have an AVCHD compatible BluRay player that can read dual-layer DVD discs, but do not have a BluRay burner on my PC.

I was hoping to convert some MKV videos to BluRay format, with menus, record the result to a DL DVD and play them on my BluRay player. But this doesn't seem to work. The discs I create play fine on my PC, but my standalone player refuses to play anything (above DVD format) with a menu (discs w/o a menu play fine.)

Is this an incompatibility with the player? Will BluRay compilations ONLY play if they are recorded to a full-sized BluRay disc? Can AVCHD discs have menus?

If you have a Panasonic player, you can put menus but you have to chose strict mode for the output (maybe not with the new Pana players).
Ans some players can't read dvd+r or -r.
They are many possible reasons to explain your problem.

As I noted above, BluRay/AVCHD discs WITHOUT menus play just fine. My player is a Samsung.

I have made lots of AVCHD DVD+R DL disks with multiAVCHD that have static menu's only. My ancient Panasonic BD35 plays them just fine but I recently bought a Panasonic BD-350 that was very expensive but for some reason would not play some of my disks that were processed by older versions of BD_Rebuilder that produced high profile 4.1 disks instead of 4.0. WTF? I called up Panasonic support 3 times or more and never got any kind of explanation (or apology) why this was done. I can only assume it had something to do with making it hard to play higher bitrate avchd backups. If you use multiAVCHD and make sure to create only static menus and use strict AVCHD ouput it should work, but if you have a newer Panasonic player then make sure you don't have high profile 4.1 output. I sent my Panasonic BD-350 back and am now very happily watching my old high profile 4.1 BD-9 backups and everything else I can throw at it on my OPPO-93. Panasonic has really messed up with their latest kit and I sent the BD-350 back and decided to go OPPO. My Oppo BDP-93 even plays 720p mkv files from a USB stick for christ's sake. Poor Panasonic doesn't have a clue, and don't know or care how much of a loyal customer they just lost. good luck with your encodes, worknstiff

Ah, that is helpful. I've been using 4.1 with everything. When I created my first discs, it seemed to improve compatibility. Now it looks like it very well could be hindering it.

Which model Samsung? I have the BD-C6500 have no issues with Blu-ray on DVD, though I have bigger projects and burn to Blu-ray. But, that shouldn't make a difference. The player doesn't care is he Blu-ray structure is on a DVD or BD media.

The 4.1 profile is a must for Blu-ray compliant structures. The 4.0 profile is for AVCHD format discs. Plus, for AVCHD format, the max bitrate is around 14.745 Mbps.

I do all my stuff for Blu-ray compliant packaging. Make sure that the H.264 is also Blu-ray compliant. Specific options must be used when encoding H.264 for Blu-ray authored media.

That said, the actual video content is neither here not there if the menus do not work first.

I have no menus selected on the left with static menu select to the right of the three other choices.

So, instead of clicking on the AVCHD creation, click on the Blu-ray creation instead. Then burn that to DVD.

Then it might even be more fussy. The Samsungs play a lot of stuff. It too has some compatibility issues with AVCHD format, in that it requires that the format be strictly adhered to.

I am new to multiAVCHD, but have read the guide on Dean's website as well as done a good deal of reading here. I'm looking for some guidance on how to use it.

My goal is to convert my foreign language films to mkv with hard burned subtitles. I don't have any problems doing this with DVD. However, I have not been successful trying it with Bluray.

1. Should I be selecting the bluray folder, the playlist or the specific m2ts file?

2. For output, if I select "File mode (Matroska container)", will it allow the file to be greater than 4GB?

3. I would like to preserve the quality of the video as much as possible, what settings can I use to specify the quality?

If I have missed this information in previous postings, I apologize. I have searched and experimented a bit with the application, but I'm just not clear on how I can accomplish my goal.

Why hard burn the subtitles. Much better to leave them separate and have the player software just display them. That way you don't screw up the video by recoding it.

I typically burn subs because my playback device is usually an Xbox 360. I get very inconsistent results when using soft subs.

Also, on my foreign language discs, I always want the native language (usually Mandarin or Cantonese) and I always want English subs. I don't want to change the settings to accomplish this.

Lastly, I do re-encode to reduce the size. My target is usually around 10 to 15GB. I feel the reduction in quality is minor, but he savings in space really adds up.

Although you can select the .M2TS file if the main movie occupies ONLY ONE .M2TS, it is safer to always select the applicable Playlist .MPLS file (Compare total time to indicated "Running time" of either the playing movie, or the package, or the disc label), since MANY Blu-rays (All Disney Blu-rays, for example) are spread over multiple .M2TS files...

I have a question about Multi AVCHD.

I am trying to author a Blu-Ray Movie with Special Features. (XMB Style with Menue)

It is no problem to make the Movie the first title of the disc so that you get in the menue and play the 1st Title (Main Feature) when you insert the disc in your BD Player.

BUT, first problem:

I try to combine the main movie with special features. I renamed the Title Menue button to Special Features so you get into the title menue screen where all other titles (special features) appear. So far so good...

But when you click on any of the other titles (special features) to play, at the end there is no possibility to root the menue to the Main Feature (1st title) where, when you click the play button the main feature (1st title) will start. You can only root from that title (special feature) to the menue screen of that title (special feature) and when you click play the special feature title will start and NOT the main feature.

So is it possible to built or patch a version of Multi AVCHD that can do something like this? I mean an option to root at the end of any title to the menue screen of the 1st (main feature) title?

The second problem is: The main feature will always appear in the menue title screen. Is it possible to simply hide this title only in the title screen? It should be shown with its menue when you insert the disc to your Blu-Ray Player (XMB Style). I recognized the hidden title feature, but when you do so, there is no chance of starting with this title when you insert the final authored disc into your Blu-Ray player.

So any chance for an extra special features screen from where you can root to special features and back to the main menue??? I think one menue is good and from there on you will only need another menue screen with the special features on it...

I would be very happy if there is anybody who can help me... Multi AVCHD is really really awesome. With these 2 little problems fixed, it has the strenght to be a lot more better than professional Blu-Ray authoring tools…
