Piping mplayer to AviSynth

Hello forum!
I have failed to crossfade videos in mplayer and mencoder. Therefore...
1) How do I pipe videos from mplayer to AviSynth and back?
2) If (1) is not possible: How can I make AviSynth accept the rich amount of filetypes as mencoder (or ffmpeg)?

Thanks in advance.
Thanks Zarxrax for pointing to FFMS2.

FFMS2 plugin for avisynth can load any filetype that ffmpeg can.

Hi Sixten!

Welcome to doom9.

As Zarxrax pointed out, ffms2 is probably your best option. The other possibility is to use DirectShow - via DirectShowSource() or DSS2(). Provided you have the necessary DirectShow filters installed, you should be able to open almost anything. It can be a lot of hassle though.
