@devs. Since the volume is so low on my system's DirectSound-HDMI I recently switched to MPC audio renderer and the difference is really huge but unfortunately there are also now drop outs, especially on 4K files.
I am not sure if this is related to the recent fixes you applied based on peter0815x reports or maybe tuesday's Windows patches creates problems but this did not occured until Sunday !!

If somebody have audio drop on latest SVN but don't have on oldest version - upload problem files. Also show timing where is drop.

I get the first drop out at 00:00:07

Using default settings, so 'DirectSound System Default' audio renderer.

mpc version/built is 1.5.3 (build 4488)

My primary player is of course mpv...

I test with DS and WASAPI output - there is no drops. See CPU/GPU load when drops is happened.

I randomly picked 4540 and with this version the problem was even worse - dozens of drop outs/glitches per minute !! So something must have happened with Tuesday's patches. Something was changed that my setup can't handle
properly or maybe even broken.
The only way to at least bypass this issue (for now) that I found is to deactivate 'dual-audio-out' and use the switch within mpc audio renderer to use the analogue-outs when I need them.

Thanks, it seems to be working well. But why is WASAPI the "better choice"?

The only reason to ever use ASIO is if your audio device supports nothing else properly (like some "pro" audio devices do), or has actual broken support for WASAPI. Ultimately bitexact audio is bitexact audio, and the API used doesn't make a huge difference.
There is a few other reasons, but none that apply to video playback.

Even more so, there is no reason to force usage of ASIO if the player has no first-class ASIO support in the first place, you just know its going to be worse then.

with the asio plugin you can get strange noises when you seek a video or when you go from dvd menu to the movie.

seems the asio plugin is playing some noises when the audio stream is interrupted.
may be a bug in asio plugin (or unoptimized plugin)

MPC-BE is giving me problems recently, I don't know if it's due to a recent windows update (I'm on Windows 10 Pro x64 build 1809).

It often hangs or exists when I start playing a UHD BD Folder.

When I play the same title with MPC-HC (I re-installed it to debug), I have no problem.

I tried to completely uninstall MPC-BE, delete the folder and registry and use all default settings (no madVR, nothing, just default internal filters), the issues are still there.

It seems to be worse when MyMovies calls MPC-BE from MCE, but I have issues even when I play the title standalone.

Some titles don't play or only play for a few seconds (The Meg). Other play fine.

Really weird. I never experienced anything like that. I tried to revert to earlier versions, same issues.

I tried different drivers for my 1080ti, 385.28 which usually works fine with everything up to the latest 430.64, still have issues.

Anyone has any idea?

I know that not everyone experiences this, but I've never had a situation like this before.

MPC-BE has always worked flawlessly on my rig, and it's been my player of choice for years.

What does this mean exactly? How do you start it? Via File -> Open?
And which MPC-BE version? Latest stable?

Last MPC-BE Stable, but also as I said older versions I tried.

I simply drop the UHD BD Folder in the MPC-BE window, or I start the .mpls directly from the "recent files".

Or the title is selected in MyMovies and launched that way (as a BD folder).

I used to have issues only with MyMovies initially, and only with some titles (it started with The Meg), but now even playing a test file such as a HDR pattern from the Masciola's set of UHD test patterns fails. All the movies titles are rips from my original discs, not dogy downloads.

MPC-HC plays all these files/folders flawlessly, and so does jRiver, so it's not the content but something weird that happened with MPC-BE on that rig and can't be undone, even with a full uninstall including reset to defaults and registry section delete.

I have MPC-BE working with these same titles on my MBP, so I know the software is still working for most, I've just never experienced a situation where I couldn't get MPC-BE to work on my HTPC, which is my main rig to play movies.

I'm asking in case someone has experienced something similar recently and has found a solution. Otherwise I'll have to stick with MPC-HC, as it's working fine, but I prefer MPC-BE a lot more.

Does it happen with all files or just one specific video- and/or audiocodec?
What audio device do you use? Try to use another one for investigation.
Try to disable/enable hardware acceleration. Any difference?
Can you provide a sample UHD BD and another file for testing purposes, but only as p.m.

Devs know more
