Capture with Vdub and Intensity Pro
I tried capturing uncompressed in VirtualDub with the BlackMagic Intensity Pro (HDMI).
Everything works fine, except without a Raid array, I can't maintain the 120 megabyte rate for very long. So tried to capture with Huffy, but it doesn't show up in the compression list. I then installed the Huffy with the CCESP Patch v0.2.5 It worked fine. Or so I thought until I checked the color. I output color bars from my Canon HF S10 video camera. The output format is 1920 x 1080. Please follow along here: http://www.etfinder.net/capturepics/ The intensity Pro outputs yuv 16 to 235, why do I need to convert to anything to avoid the skewed color. Why can't I just capture what it gives to Huffy without a filter? Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Chris |

The point is to capture live through HDMI and avoid the loss of quality that happens when the video is compressed inside the camera. With compression, you lose your 4:2:2 color and get 4:2:0 color, and you also get compression artifacts. By capturing live you get a much better image.

You're right about loosing the quality, however there are few hardware solutions to play natively 4:2:2 (as BD is 4:2:0 AFAIK). You probably want to edit them as 4:2.2 then downsample them to 4:2:0, which makes sense.
No idea for the colorspace... |
