Would be nice if there is a way to deactivate the hdr modes tone mapping to take advantage of both, the madvr's tonemapping and the tv's hdr modes brightness.

Someone posted a way to do just that a few pages back, using the service menu.
Is it worth to sacrifice colour accuracy for higher max brightness, though?

I used android ANYMOTE with my Galaxy Tab s to get into the service menu on my LG OLED, I couldnt get it to work over WIFI using my phone, it looks like it has to be an IR device, luckily my TAB S had and IR port. Dont ask me how to do it again though as this was nearly 3 years ago and I remember it being a bit of a faff , google it for instructions.
I only disabled ABL though, dont plan to change anything else.

In HDR mode, peak brightness would only reach about 750-780 nits in a 10% sustained window on my B7, the newer C8 seems to have better highlights up to 900 nits. However, looking at the rtings measurements, the real scene peak brightness is the about same 680 nits for HDR and 380 nits for SDR. I agree that color accuracy takes a pretty large hit at high brightness due to the white subpixel usage. However, I don't know of any TV, OLED or LED, which actually does substantially better in the wide gamut range, in either accuracy or volume, as no TVs can fill this range, especially at the high brightness levels. The main negative for OLED in this discussion is the inability to reach the high peak brightness levels of HDR in SDR mode, and over 300 nits is a large visible difference. And unless someone takes measurements, I wouldn't trust the service menu change to be a positive improvement overall for SDR. Every OLED TV manufacturer also has different tone-mapping for HDR modes, but overall there shouldn't be huge difference between them. Near black performance is also greatly improved for the 2017+ OLED models, but I still have my complaints on uniformity and screen color tinting. from memory ABL isnt actually called ABL and ABSL is something completely different, mine is definately disabled, if I get time i'll look into this and confirm which option needs to be disabled, unless anyone can remember?

ABL is the function to limit the overall brightness of the screen (mainly to limit the power consumption) and can't be disabled. But you can get rid of it by calibrating the display to a value under the maximum fullscreen brightness. If a oled is able to do 160 nits on a 100% fullscreen window, you could calaibrate the max brightness to 140-160 nits and then abl will never jump in.

I'll see if I can find the discussion about this and get some details.

the issue I had was the whole panel would suddenly dim in a movie less often but mostly on web sites in windows, this was super annoying, this is ABL, since disabling this it no longer happens.
looks like i did it later than I thought, here is the the discussion back in 2016 https://www.avforums.com/threads/lg-...#post-24331874

I could be misremembering this I guess but my panel stopped full panel dimming when I disabled TPC, the whole panel would dim randomly mainly in windows on websites, I never noticed in movies but it was the whole panel not just elements on the screen.
EDIT, further conversations suggest OLED 55-60 defeats ABL on my panel, i'll have a look at the weekend. Mine is currently set to 60
