i dont know if i should ask this here or not,
but i have afew wmv files with some kind of protection in it.
i can only play them with the player that they provided
the thing is its a very simple player and i cant use lav and madvr with it, also as its a SD video, the image quality is not that great and i cant do madvr's RCA there (not to mention that i have to login everytime i play the files)
so is there some way that i can play them with mphc?

@clsid, do you have nightly builds somewhere?
Btw, thanks for keeping MPC alive

I believe clsid does not provide "nightly" builds for every commit, only releases when he feels it's worth a new release. Binaries with a fourth version number part come from other people, and unfortunately I don't know who.

That's ok, thank you for confirming. I was wondering about builds from clsid (github.com/clsid2/mpc-hc), because both official MPC-HC (nightly.mpc-hc.org), MPC-BE (sf.net) and LAV filters traditionally build nightlies (and K-Lite Pack with betas).

With what? What does "reliably" mean?

Hi clsid,
would you be willing to investigate a memory leak I've experienced with mpc-hc for years (since ever, actually)?

MPC-HC using almost 8GB RAM: https://i.imgur.com/wIVym99.png
MPC-HC uses less than 300 or 400MB with this file in a freshly opened process.

It happens regardless of which files I'm playing, regardless of renderer, and I believe it to be related to waking the computer from sleep/hibernation.
I'm not sure how can I get minidumps since the player isn't really crashing, but if there's a way I'd be willing to send you.
Process Hacker should also let me just save the entire memory space from the running process, if it helps (though it would be a bit big).

Sorry, I don't have the expertise for that.

I recommend to reload the file (Ctrl+E) after hibernation to avoid problems.

Reloading the file doesn't really help (or skipping to next/previous, etc), I have to actually close the player to rid the memory usage.
It's not a deal-breaker kind of problem, but it is annoying to my use case: I just keep a few players open, each stopped on whatever episode I'm at of any series I'm watching, so I can just play when I decide to continue watching. Turns out that over a week or so, with a handful of players, I suddenly find myself missing some 10+ GB of RAM, heh.
Mind you, the problem also happens with MPC-BE.

Thanks either way for maintaining this player with what you can.

It does makes me kinda sad, though, that there hasn't been any new, or a lot of development on, no-nonsense players over the last many years that you can use with all the nice external filters and renderers. I fear for the day some Windows update breaks MPC-HC and it dies once and for all.

Cheers

Microsoft cares a lot about backwards compatibility so that is very unlikely. And if it would happen, then I expect people will step up and assist to fix it. Right now, developers are just not really interested because the player already works good enough for them.

Since it also happens with MPC-BE, then just report it there. If they fix it, I can apply the same fix to MPC-HC.

You may be able to generate helpful data with this:

I'll give this a shot in the next weeks.
Thanks!

You can just right click on the process in task manager and click 'Create dump file'.

Can you talk a little more about this issue? What symbols were not drawn?

Added:
I see that the symbol ฿ is not in the Arial font (Windows 7).

I've been using 3DYD Youtube Source for a long time but this youtube-dl feature looks great. How do you configure the quality? Is it "best" quality by default?
