Changing thread title files (edit test)

Hey,

I used to post releases of MKVToolNix in the [https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.p...]corresponding thread[/url]. Additionally I used to update the thread's title to reflect the latest version number.

Changing the thread title doesn't seem to work anymore.

What I used to do was:

1. Edit the very first post in the thread,
2. Click on "Go Advanced",
3. Change the "Title" field from e.g. "MKVToolNix v23.0.0 released" to "MKVToolNix v24.0.0 released",
4. Change the very first line in the post itself to point to the post containing the release notes,
5. Click "Save".

What now happens is that the thread's title itself (the title shown in the forum's thread) stays on its old value. Instead a new bold-typed title is added inside the body.

I'll attach a screenshot showing the discrepancy.

I haven't found any other way to change the thread title.

Is this supposed not to work anymore? If so, why not? And can someone please change the title of the linked thread to something that doesn't contain the version number anymore, e.g. "New MKVToolNix version released"? Thanks.

Kind regards
mosu

One way that I know that definitely works is to go to the forum that contains your thread, and double-click into the empty space in the entry of your thread, which opens a text box to edit the title.

Although your method also just worked for me when I tested.

I didn't know about that method, but it doesn't seem to work for me either — or I'm simply not trying at the right spot. Could you please provide a screenshot with a mark where to click? You can send it to moritz@bunkus.org ; attachment approval is notoriously slow here. Thanks.

Or really anywhere in that section where there is no text.

If that doesn't work, you would't be running script blockers or anything like that?

Thanks, but no joy. I usually am running uBlock Origin, but I've tried now with Chrome in incognito mode (which means to extensions at all), Firefox with a fresh profile and even Internet Explorer (which I normally never use). No matter where I double-click in that line, I cannot edit the title. Nothing happens. I don't have a proxy between the browsers and the server either (neither explicit nor transparent).

That being said — I can edit the title of this particular thread, just not of the MKVToolNix release thread. Maybe it's something specific with that particular thread?

Yeah I'm pretty sure this is a v-bulletin issue. A strange one too, like, 8 years is long enough to be editing thread titles, no more now.

Alright. So how do I get that thread changed now? I'd be OK with it being changed only once to something that doesn't contain the version number, but the current one is simply confusing for users. Who do I have to message to take a look or maybe just change it directly in the database?

I tried to change the title from a >10 year old thread (albeit in a different subforum) and it is the same problem. Newer thread worked.

Pm a mod. I'd try Swede, since he may be able to adjust some options at the same time to extend the time limit.

Just issue a new version thread with link from older version, avoid all the probs. (link in both first and last post).
Ask mods to close older thread.
