4x3 ass subtitles appear stretched in full screen
This happens mainly with some ASS anime subtitle files, encoded in 4x3 format and from DVD source (640x480).
In windowed mode they appear normally in 4x3 format. when I enter full screen mode I keep the original aspect ratio so I have two black vertical borders on each side. But the subtitles instead of appearing inside the picture, they often stretch even extending inside the black border. With directvobsub on they appear in the correct analogy. But by using MPC and Potplayer internal subtitles I get this problem. Is there any solution to this? Mainly because the internal subtitles have much better quality in videos encoded in non-HD resolution. xy-vobsub filter doesnt support double subtitle resolution like the original version. |

even mpc-be has issues.
here is a screenshot of the specific video but others as well with internal subtitles enabled (Potplayer, MPC, VLC, etc). http://www.abload.de/img/dirty1mouyh.jpg with directvosub http://www.abload.de/img/dirty2w0upk.jpg another instance: Potplayer, MPC, VLC etc Fonts may stretch even further if I lower Windows resolution http://www.abload.de/img/dirty4ouuxj.jpg correct image with directvobsub http://www.abload.de/img/dirty3hwust.jpg I am not talking about exquisite karaoke effects that explore ASS possibilities, just simple ASS subtitles with the correct analogy. this should have been easy to fix but has been so for years. as a result I am forced to use Directvobsub to be 100 % certain subtitles appear correctly. Can not modify ASS subtitle size or position either. |
