My concern is tsMuxeR's chapter setting in the mpls files for each title.

Basically a chapter jump (through a playlist mpls) is a "jump to the packet with PTS = xxxx". How could one be sure that this packet has the h264 start of a key/IDR frame?

I'm either missing something or I'm not understanding the whole concept.

Since decoding of the jump frame usually requires decoding of the previous IDR frame, I prefer to have x264 generate it just a bit earlier, so once the player decides to 'seek' for it, it will need to go just 1-2 frames back and reconstruct the requested one.

Please let me know if I'm getting this all wrong. I have my observations of how PS3 (although a powerful machine) struggles to seek back (either with reversed playback or seek-back - spinning its fans to 150% since the CPU needs much much more power to reconstruct the rev-playback).

And laserfan, my post is about a newly reencoded file (not a blu-ray one) and tsMuxeR's ability to link the chapter marks to the closest possible IDR frame in the encoded AVC video.

deank, sorry to report that my Planet Earth, though it seemed to work perfectly playing on software players, would not work, and would freeze up my Sony S360 player after episode 6.
The first five episodes worked perfectly, including the motion menu and the motion title thumbnails. However, after the sixth episode, the motion menu would freeze up.
The player seemed to be less responsive too after the 4-5th episode, taking longer to change to a different episode thru button navigation, as well as when selecting play, it took longer to start.
I will try again with version 744+, since it appears you may have found the issue. I will try to let you know tomorrow with my results.

Huh, okay, well, I seem to have run into a problem while encoding the motion thumbnail.

X264 crashed:

If I click okay, Windows 7 tells me that I can close the program and report the error, or just close the program. I close the program, and multiAVCHD continues on it's own:

I'm not quite sure why the error occured. I have no problems when encoding with the X264 installed by meGUI, I even ran about 6 tests that encoded a DVD over and over for hours and no problems occured.

edit: I'm replacing the x264 version included by mAVCHD with the MeGUI one and trying again. Let's see if it crashes.
edit2: Huh, even with a totally different executable it crashes.

There is a calculation error for the subpath IDs for the IGS for titles>10 (decimal to hex conversion).

Update to 744 I fixed it. If you don't want to redo your compilation - send me 00255.mpls - it needs one byte change and will be fixed.

I will probably redo it. I've had several other issues getting this project done, but I want to gather my data and compose my remarks before posting about them.

Hi Dean,

I have searched but didn't find anything about "(more than 10 playitems: output suppressed)" in the log.

Could you please be so kind and give me a hint ?

Regards

Some menu playlists contain over 100 (or 500 until recently in multiAVCHD) playitems (m2ts files). multiAVCHD reports the first 10 and the last 10 - they are all the same, so no need to full the log with this information. This is done so the menu will play almost indefinitely (like 5-10 hours) if you leave your player unattended.

Latest test of Planet Earth to BD-RE with 744+ works perfectly on my S360.
Thanks for a quick find and fix!

Regarding chapters created/used from tsMuxeR, I found that on some episodes the chapter lands on a frame before it should, or at least I see a quick seen change after the chapter selection starts. It seems it should have been a few frames later, so that it is already at this next scene. Not a big deal though, and it happens on backups of almost every Blu-Ray I have done.
Now I am looking forward to if/when the motion menu capabilities are greater than 32 seconds.

Well... that may be not that easy to implement, but I'll get to it next week. Good to know your PE disc works now

About the chapters - it has nothing to do with multiAVCHD. The discussion above is when you use multiAVCHD to re-encode your source and is not related to the muxing part with tsMuxeR of videos you brought into multiAVCHD

The wish list exists, but the appreciation list is greater!
I am perfectly content with the motion menu/motion title thumbnails as is! Maybe it's just presumptuous, but your quick changes/fixes and feature additions and enhancements have spoiled me!
I realise it is not multiAVCHD regarding chapters issues, but was just relaying an observation, not trying to imply a bug.

I knew that. The point I was trying to make was "how do you know what the PTS is of the IDR frame" because if you use the originals and then re-encode, you can't depend on the player landing properly, because the I frames may have changed. I guess you are saying then that you simply assert a slightly later landing time for the chapter, and then the player will in most instances seek-back to the I-frame that is most recent, and which too (hopefully) is at the scene change.

I don't pretend to understand how any of this works (!), only that IME the chapter marks from the original will, many times, not match-up with an I-frame in the re-encode, which results in the "shows a frame or two from the previous scene when advancing to a chapter" as Capsbackup said too.

Hi Dean,
Well I just finished LOTR Trilogy (one 25gig BDR) , although I rarely change settings I thought I would give the new Mpeg2 Menu encoding a go. The Reason for this is I usually have issues when I get to this point. I basically get a stall and the program timer instead of counting down as its encoding menu the timer goes higher. I just use the handy dandy Break button and skip to the next taskat hand to which MultiAVCHD uses Title menu.

OK so now when I get to Menu encoding time with Mpeg2 Ticked , My Counter didnt show any activity for about 10 minutes, So I used the Break button again and have a Nice Title Menu ( No Biggie ). I know youhave posted about Menu encoding in the past, Mind you Im the guy with the Actual Super PC Core I7 950 OC 4.2 with 12 Gigs of RAM , I dont usually report anything because with 12 updates a week you usually fix whatever is wrong too fast. , I will try the tried and true reload AVISYNTHHAALIFFDSHOW fix. I hit the break button so I donth think the Log Would really help. I'll keep you posted

I never use the BREAK and ABORT buttons... I don't really know what they actually do (seriously... don't use them).

The MPEG-2 menu encoding option requires 2-pass processing. Just to be on the safe side - make sure you enable [x] Show spawned tools option in SETTINGS tab.

Then you'll see all tools and what they are doing.

1pass with HCenc is ignored since the source (menu) is <60 seconds. With MPEG-2 you'll always get 2pass processing (which in fact is really nice and produces great quality).

I got this e-mail this morning from a multiAVCHD user:

Quote:
Hi Dean,
I came across multiAVCHD only a few days ago, and I love it!

I have an idea that could make it even more practical for Adobe Premiere Pro users.
Adobe Premiere Pro (CS4) can edit AVCHD files, however it cannot output them without re-compression as multiAVCHD can...
However, Premiere Pro is a very convenient tool for editting large amount of video files (cutting / re-ordering etc.).

I wanted to know if you could add an "import-from-textfile" feature to multiAVCHD:
import video files from a list in a text file, where each line in the text file will contain the video filename, and the trimming times to cut from the beginning and end of this video. If such a feature will be present in multiAVCHD users will be able to export the editting data from Premiere Pro to a text file and import it to multiAVCHD,
thus rendering the project using multiAVCHD.

Users can use the dynamic link from Adobe Premiere Pro to AE (Adobe After Effects), and for AE I could write a script that will export the editting data to a text file.
I've written a few scripts to AE already, and this one should not be too hard (unfortunately, Premiere does not support scripting the way AE does...).
Just let me know the text format that is most convenient to you.
something like: filename, inTrim[sec], outTrim[sec]
for example (comma seperated f):
"d:\My documents\my videos\file0001.m2ts", 2, 4
"d:\My documents\my videos\file0002.m2ts", 3, 1
"d:\My documents\my videos\file0003.m2ts", 0, 40
"d:\My documents\my videos\file0003.m2ts", 20, 10
"d:\My documents\my videos\file0004.m2ts", 0, 1

Let me know if you could do that.
It should be very similar to your "Add video files" button, but will enter the data to the Trim fields (instead of 0, 0).
If you can add that to multiAVCHD, let me know the exact format that is most convenient for you,
and I will make the AE Script export the data in that format.
Is it possible to trim times in mili-seconds or fractions of a second (in order to make it more accurate to frames) ?

I think this feature and the proposed technique could make a real revolution for users who want to use Premiere to edit large and complex projects, and want multiAVCHD to combine it all to an AVCHD folder (or any other output option) without re-compressing the video.

Thanks a lot
It was quite easy to implement it, so I did that. You can now import plain text files (with .mfl extension). The format is:

file_name|trim_start|trim_end|poster_frame_in_seconds

Example:

Code:
00001.m2ts|12.041|96.811|4.555
F:\AVCHD\BDMV\STREAM\00002.m2ts|12.041
D:\00003.m2ts|||1813
C:\00004.m2ts
The only required field is the filename. The text file should have .mfl extension. With this one, multiAVCHD types grow by one:

.mpf - project file
.mlf - language file
.mmt - menu template
.mfl - file list

Hi Dean, been having a few issues since the last few updates.

In the old version whenever I hit start it would come up with the options menu for what type I would like, I always used the AVCH to dvd for panasonic players and this worked flawlessly! Since the update this option is gone and is replaced with AVCHD (strict) and AVCHD (loose) I havent been able to get an AVCHD burned to dvd that works since.

The dvd loads and then says play on the br player(panny bd30) and then imediately syas stop?

What am I doing wrong

Thanks

P.S. also I never did get the fit to all to work, it ALWAYS seems to create a disk that is 101% of the dvd size therefore rendering the convertion useless. I must admit this mainly happens when I am trying to encode video streams that are over 4500MB in the first place, any suggestions?

AVCHD (strict) should work... If you can't make it work, you'll have to use version 3.0. FIT-ALL does not take into account menu files and in version 4 motion menus may take up to 30MB per title.

Ok dean thanks for the quick reply. do you think if I disable all menus this will make the fit to all work for files larger than 4500MB?

Also I have tried about 3 different projects with strict, none fo them work? I am currently writing a project with loose to see if this solves the problem. Will update if succesful on both counts.

Just noticed something and being a noob Im probably way of track BUT worth asking, I have noticed that I have img burn set to autostart and in settings the default is use img burn with drd/bd-r output as apposed to what I BELIEVE I used to use was the ISO settings when launching imgburn manually and adding the folders, it would autamatically adjust to this, could this be the case that imgburn is buring the disc in the wronf format?
