I'll post more information in this thread next week on the codec and our plans for it.

Athlon XP 3000+, Thank You For Smoking Trailer played with VLC 0.8.5-test1, yes it was running even though it may not look like it ... just sad the GUIs of those players suck major ass and subtitle renderers are major crap too. and for dshow i used timecodec from haali ffdshow User: 20s, kernel: 0s, total: 21s, real: 72s, fps: 166.9, dfps: 49.4 (VMR7 - dfps ruined by vsync) User: 21s, kernel: 0s, total: 21s, real: 29s, fps: 165.6, dfps: 119.3 (Null Renderer) Now CoreASP should provide some more fps for dshow, would be nice to know how you can do proper VLC benchmarks ... Well... I've had a little more success...
I've been beta testing some UPnP media serving software my Zensonic Z500, and after turning it off completely and playing the "Thank You For Smoking" source trailer again in GraphEdit, my pathetic (one core) 2.8GHz P4 seems to be a lot happier I also re-muxed the source into MP4 (using YAMB), to see how much difference in load there would be to the AVI... Anyway, here are the results: - Cheers

We would like to OS CoreASP... and the discussion inhouse atm is too eventually do so. But there are several good reasons why we should not... so it TBD for now.

If i can say my opinion, i would like suggest to concentrate the comparison instead of the "speed", rather on the "quality" of the decoding, that nowadays is very different from decoder to decoder. Speed is not such a matter in an ASP context.
In my experience the best quality output (without deblock) is NeroDigital decoder. Follow the Xvid decoder, and last FFDShow (very much dirt and problem with color conversion). Xvid decoder is close to NeroDigital in terms of quality, but Nero has an upgear (pheraps best chroma converting routine?). |

I think Nero always outputs RGB colorspace converted by it's own software, xvid outputs YUY2 for me per default and ffdshow YV12. Some graphics cards also got problems with YV12 processing ... however I generally agree that quality of libavcodec used with ffdshow output is not always what I'd call the best.

Sorry its been a while guys... we have been busy with CoreAVC and the new CoreAAC v2.0. We have set the CoreASP launch back till after CorePlayer Mobile 1.0 is released next month.
I'll pick up this thread in a few weeks on the requested features.... and by then we will have post processing added.
