Strange prob muxing MP4 + SRT into MKV

I have an H264 video stream in MP4 (public videos) to which I would like to add subtitles (as SRT).

The MP4 are a series and this worked well for the 1st two but I have got stuck with the 3rd one. It's about 44 min long, but after muxing into MKV with the subtitles, the length is 1 hr 44 min, with the latter hour being empty.

I have tried using MKVToolnix GUI v23 to split (n=2) the resultant MKV after 44 min, but it doesn't - still produces a single MKV 1 hr 44 min long. Audio is AAC.

Even tried converting MP4 into AVI, extracting AAC, and muxing AVI, AAC and SRT into MKV but still latter is 1 hr 44 min.

Anyone suggest a fix? This is driving me nutz...

TIA

Have you looked at the subtitles timing in some subtitle editor, what time do they start.
Re-time the subs in eg 'Subtitle Edit'.

Check first / last subtitle times.

So the problem defo with the subs. [EDIT: Or AAC audio, try mux without subs, if normal length then defo subs]

That was it! For some strange reason all the subs (even the original source ones) had an hour added.

Can't find the "bow down& worship" icon or I'd use that...

Quite often on DVD, you will have a single "Play All" style option, or 'Play Episode x',
where the individually extracted episode may have timings from the "Play All" type thing.
(leastwise, thats how it seems)

Cool.

You might be wondering why I did not notice that all the subs had been delayed 1 hour. It was because the episode contained a lotē of nonENG speech with hard-coded subs.

Cheers
