UBR HEVC convert to h.264 1080p

how can i downconvert UBR 3840x2160 HDR video 23.976
to h.264 1920x1080 23.976 using bd_rebuilder.

possible? easily done?

currently running version 61.22
could upgrade if necessary.

What's UBR HEVC?

ultra bluray = UBR
HEVC = codec hevc = basically h.265

The official term is "UHD" (Ultra High Definition) Blu-ray discs. And all such discs are encoded using HEVC/H265.

There's really no need to make-up new terms...

Easily done.
I would suggest to update to BD-RB 61.25 first.
If you want a BD volume ready to burn to BD-R/RE-25 or -50, just specify Full Backup, Target Size BD-25 or BD-50.
Otherwise Movie-Only Backup.
If you have a nvidia RTX card above 1060 and want it quick and dirty you specify Encoder -> NVEnc and choose your desired quality preset
If you want better quality and slow you specify Encoder -> x264 and choose your desired quality preset, and so on.

i want movie only, yes bd25 target easy.
i have a very old nvidia card, so that is out.
so how do i specify x264 encoder versus x265.

Settings -> Encoder -> x264/x265.
If you did not overrule anything by Hiddenopts, x264 is then assumed automatically because BD is your goal, and BD can only have H.264, and MPEG-2, and VC-1, no H.265.

if i want x265, how do i specify that. yes that wouldn't be a BD,
it would be Ultra High Definition disk.
how can i do that with BD_Rebuilder?

Hi there, I tried the 265>264 as you suggested, with hidden options as far as I can tell, but the original 265 clip came out the other end as 265 after all.
here the ini file, any idea why I didn't get 264..?

I was using the force_noencode=1 to stop it re-encoding a file that was already small enough to fit.. But I can see how in this case it would not be wanted.

Well I took out that parameter, but still the output was 265..!! I do seem to have trouble with a change in the parameters in the INI file, actually affecting the BD-RB output. In some other parameters too. As if a cache is not being flushed or something weird..

just dropping a note to mention that I did manage to get BD-RB to convert from 265 to 264 while in the process of creating a BD25, [therefore missing out the additional Handbrake encoding stage] ie: better picture quality. By removing BOTH the 'force no encode' and the 'keep only original BDMV folders' entries from the REBUILDER.INI config file. Which are both required IF you want to stop BD-RB reencoding a source that is already small enough and compliant for a BD25..

AND be aware that BD-RB has to be closed and re-opened for it to re-read the REBUILDER.INI file, so makes your changes while it is not open.
