Good news bad news!

Good News - The full files processed properly in XMB menu, the project went through to the end in 8mins <=excellent. Log attached.

Bad News - PS3 playback. The motion menu starts then freezes (title 1). It plays back about 1/2 sec then stops, navigation seems to work fine. Moving to the next title 2, the playback starts for 1/2 sec, then screen goes to black. The navigation (blue highlight) is the only thing on the screen.

cwh

Must have been typing when your last RC candidate was release, I will try agin using XMB again.

Please post your log in your message, otherwise it needs a moderator to approve the attachment.

Still I can't replicate your troubles. I have encoded more than 50 compilations with motion menu and all work fine.

It is something related to the encoding process with x264 and avisynth.

Here is the log, everything looks fine to me.

I have the most recent version of x264 from your earlier posts. I can replace again, if we think it will help. Everything works fine with Static menu and partially works with XMB motion menu. I'll snap a pic.

You log shows that menu encoding is done in 20 seconds, which is impossible. I'll test now again to see if I broke something.

Are the x/y positions on the menu tab for "Play" "Setup" "Chapters" and "Title List" backwards? "Setup" "Chapters" and "Title List" should have the same y but different x values.

EDIT: I see how these values can be true with XMB menu. I was specifically referring to Carousel menu.

I don't understand your question... These are just coordinates - put whatever you want. To use the values you entered, enable [x] Apply button positions settings option.

Even if the resolution is set to 1080p in the player's setup ?

I don't know ALL players. PS3 will switch to 720p and it is not visible. Anyway, I prepared 720p pop-up menu to be used with 1280x720p titles, so it will be okay.

And what happens if we put 720p videos and 1080p videos on the same disc ?
I ask it because I guess there is one pop-menu resolution by disc.

Do you mean that the PS3 doesn't let you the choice of the resolution and that you cannot upscale 720p to 1080p ?
If yes, a test would be nice to know if the pop-menu appears when you set the resolution to 1080p.

No.. there are 2 (or three if I make one for 480i/576i).

I just tested it with 2 titles 1920x1080 and 1280x720 - each uses its own pop-up (although they look the same) and both show okay

Cool, amazing !
I edited my message after your response, there is another question.
But after what you said, I guess that even if the resolution is set to 1080p in the setup, the 720p video will automatically "call" the 720p pop-up menu which will be upscaled in 1080p by the player.
But it's not easy to say if both pop-up menu resolutions are on the disc.

I prefer writing the code for multiAVCHD than speculating what a player would do. I know what PS3 does and it is enough for me. Either way the pop-up will be visible.

When I find a user to test and report the result I'll know more.

Unless there is a difference between the different pop-up menues. For example, its resolution written discretely on it.

A pop-up menu for 480/576 resolutions is a good idea.

Of course there is a difference... it is not just x/y and width/height - the whole image for the pop-up is RLE encoded to fit the screen.

Stay coooool.
I don't understand this reaction, my question is logical because many people use MultiAVCHD to make compilations with different resolutions.
And it was only the continuation of my previous question that you answered nicely.

As you said earlier, you chose to make a free program with donation system to stay free and also (I guess) to stay closer of the users who help you to make it evolve.
Thus, don't be astonished if we make suggestions and if we dare you ask some (punctilious) questions, especially if it concerns a new possibility of your program.

I'm not programer and i'm not supposed to know what you know about your program.

I meant a visible difference, just to know if we are looking at the 720p pop-up menu upscaled in 1080p when we look at a 720p video on a player set on 1080p.
But it's not important, I'm maybe too curious ...

You misinterpreted the tone of my message I guess

Still, I'll repeat that I have no answer to your question since I can't test what you ask for. If you can - do it and you will know (and then I will know).

I'm not even sure if Blu-ray players will up-scale 1280x720 to 1920x1080. Most probably they will switch HDMI to 720p (which is the correct thing to do).

As I said, I don't mind your questions, but I have another 20 like yours and I have no one to ask for an answer.

I think you like to ask unnecessary questions. The man already said that each resolution has its own pop-up, not upscaled, not downscaled. It is not a studio software, to create a menu from scratch with given elements, all is preset.

l.e. "Most probably they will switch HDMI to 720p (which is the correct thing to do)." - deank put it a whole lot better that I would have.

Hi Dean,

I've been testing static XMB menus so far on a Sony BDP-S350.

Navigation on the main menu works fine. The chapter menus are a nice addition as is the background sound. Let me know when the user defined option is available.

The pop-up menu appears even though I am using 720p video.

I had a list of pop-up menu problems with Chapters/Title List and Title Menu not working but your last RC appears to have fixed that.

The only issue I now see with the Previous and Next title buttons is that it cycles through the main menu also. For example, if you are on the first title and select previous title, you are sent to the main menu. If you are on the last title and select next title, you are again sent to the main menu.

I'll see how the motion menus are working next. I had some compilation problems last night.

Keep up the excellent work!

dean,

I can report the blank screen is now gone with the latest release candidate. The 1/2sec motion menu is still evident.

Code:
[11:42:41] Preparing menu pages...
[11:42:41] Encoding motion XMB menu page [1/2].
[11:42:55] Encoding motion XMB menu page [1/2]: Chapter page [1/1].
[11:43:00] Encoding motion XMB menu page [2/2].
[11:43:09] Encoding motion XMB menu page [2/2]: Chapter page [1/1].
[11:43:13] Menu authoring completed.
As you stated, the menu is not taking long enough to create, it's still the same with this rc.

The pop up menu is a cool additon on PS3!
