I have a problem too after the update.
All divx3 content is nicely played by WMP, but divx4 and 5 not (by WMP), it says it can't find a decoder.

But if I start the subalphaplaya it plays the file. Although doubleclicking on it, the subplaya freezes, starting and running works.

Any idea how I get divx4/divx5 content played with wmp? (it worked before the 'tweak').

P.S. Anyone got a backup of the original registry parts?

BTW: I always use BSPlayer, I didn't test with WMP...now I did!

No problems here with MPlayer 6.4 and 8.0! DivX3.11-, DivX4 and DivX5-Content work fine with both after the "tweak"...

unregistering dixdec.ax is enough (at least for me) to get divx 3.11 original DS filter when i need it

I come back to my original problem. It seems that it works all, although I have one movie that is encoded in divx4, but marked divx3. So WMP won't play it, VDub plays it, but says it doesn't have any sound, only Alpha Player plays it correctly.

If I'm reading this thread correctly then the reg files in the rar linked in the first post corrects this problem? Ok, now who's going to solve the problem of the broken reg files? I get a "the specified file is not a registry script" error for all of them.

Just for info

Yesterday I install the DivX5 codec (only the codec- 1.5MB exe) and SURPRISE I can normaly play DIvX3.11 files with original Divx3 filter (wmp6.4), and play divx5 files with divx5 filter.
I have win98se! Previously I have installed divx3.11 and 4.12 (4.12 not to play 3.11 content). I do this: uninstall divx4.12 codec and then install divx5.
I this way all goes right!

Is this only happen to me or it's norma???

Isn't automatic filter graph creation independent of player? I think it is, but not sure...

For Win 98 you can try what I did...search for "DivX Decoder Filter" in the registry and every time you find an entry "Filter Data" close to it, edit this entry as desctribed above (overwrite DIV3 etc. with something like ABCD). Then export every entry you found into a regfile...

importing doesn't work

Thanks for this Post. But if I want to import this .reg file it says that these can't be imported because these were no regestry files.
Perhaps this is because of Win98SE ?
So I decided to do it manually.
If I understood you right I have to overwrite e.g. Div3 with ABCD
not the numbers in the left rows ? Is that right ?
I did this for div3 - DIV6 => restartet the system.
No effect it still uses DivX5 to decode.
I did the changes with Regedit.
So can anyone help me ? Hads someone .reg files for Win98SE?

I want to do this because some movies are looking very bad with divX5 - don't know why - but the colors are very strange, and there are very strong shades e.g. sky! Others (div3) work fine.
(sorry for my bad english)

Well, I have no clue about Win98 at all. The Reg-Files will not work in 98SE that's for sure...

Manually replacing ALL entries as described should work after rebooting, I'm pretty sure...

For Win media player 6.4 play the avi and then go to properties. There you have all the filters in use and can change the filter options...

Peter whats that unreg command exactly? I'm not giving up my zoom player for playa... Those rar use binary filter data so it cannot be converted to win98se regedit4. This is really lame, the pro didnt give me any choices in overwriting player properties like prior 4.12 did. I found 4 locations that had it, my Nortons crashes so I cannot export a copy with them fixed. I can capture okay now with 3.11 again.

Once again, did someone try to do it manually on Win98 as described and can confirm it is possible?

There's only 3 FilterData entries in Win9x? I didn't have the time to read through your filter data entries...what did you have to change? Same as above on XP?

What problems do you have with DivX4?

You have to know, DivX5 uses by default

FourCC: DIVX
UsedCodec: DX50

Divx4 uses both times DIVX

Just saw your filter data entries are different from mine...what exactly did you change?

I changed all DIV3/div3 - DIV4/div4 - DIV5/div5 - DIV6/div6 entries to ABCD.

And remember on WinXP it is 6 times Filter data as above, maybe worth a check, if you forgot something?

I don't know what you mean...

div3 is for DivX3.11 Low Motion
div4 is for DivX3.11 Fast Motion
div5 and div6 I don't know :-)

divx/DIVX (FourCC-Code/Used Codec) DivX4.x
divx/DX50 (FourCC-Code/Used Codec) DivX5.0

divx 4.12 codec

Anyone able to combine the process of keeping divx 4.12 on the system (for encoding), with this process? I have kept my divx 4.12 codec as per the procedure on this forum, and would love to be able to use the codec for playback as well...

I would love to have divx 3.11 play divx 3.11 content, divx 4.12 (divx4.dll) play divx 4.12 content, and divx 5 only playing divx 5 content.

Anyone have any ideas? Is it actually possible?
