Attachment still not authorized...but the DivXDeux thing is related to DivX5...and what orulz is doing does not touch DivX5 settings, but DivX3 (raising it's priority)...the reg-file from orulz should be okay as it is for WindowsXP...searching for "DivX MPEG-4 DVD Video Decompressor" and replacing the 7 entry in filter data with 90 (instead of 80) should achieve the same on any WinOS...I just been asking, if it's possible to make a universal inf-file...but well...it's just a simple reg-change...anyone can change it by her-/himself and export the key and that's it...maybe no need for any further hassle...

Well, orulz has explained it well, all he does is change one byte to raise the DivX3-Decoder-Filter's priority, so it will kick in instead of the DivX5-Filter for all files it supports.

DivX4 can't be decoded by the DivX3-Filter anyway...the DivX5-Filter will do it fine, what do you mean?

Did you think about the question, if it's possible to make one reg-file for all WinOS's?

Ok so we have divx3 handling divx3 vids, and divx5 handling divx4 and divx5 vids. Can we take that farther and let divx4 handle divx4 encodes again?

we can take that even closer
for example by using the 'search'-button.

why all this?

DivX newbie here. Can you explain to me why I want to play DIVX3.11 content with the DivX3.11 codec and not the DivX5.01 codec? I mean if I can play all DIVX video with one codec instead of two, isn't that a nicer solution? Thanks.

Also (and maybe this is part of the answer to my question), does the DivX5.01 codec choke on some DivX3.11 content? That might explain why I can't seem to play a few of my videos.

No, it's just some people want it because they think Divx3.11 material looks bad with the Divx5 playback filter.
I don't think so, I even think it looks slightly better (especially at higher post-processing filter settings). It's a matter of personal taste.
I haven't had any Divx video yet that wouldn't play with the Divx5 filter and I never heard about it either.

Divx 5 screws up majorly high res movies done with nandub. Thats a fact. IT speeds up then slows down.

I have played many Nandub files with Divx5 (the highest res was only 640, though) and the only speeding up happens when you scroll through the movie. The picture starts from a little earlier than the sound, speeds up until it is in sync and stays in sync.
This speeding is a little funny, but it's only for about 1 second, then it's over. No further speeding, slowing, or whatever happened to me so far. So fact is, it's not a fact for everyone.

Black border

While talking about the advantages/disadvantages of the divx5 codec, has anyone of you noticed the darkened border on the right side while playing with the divx5 codec? I think this thing is annoying, has anyone of you found a possibility to get rid of it? Its about 5-10 pixel on the right side of the actual movie who geht darkened by about 50% or so.
Would be nice if anyone already found a solution to see the full movie without any borders and stuff.

@wiz,

What you're talking about has been reported by a lot of people. It's a bug in the DivX5 decoder.

The new version 5.02 has supposdly fixed this. Download it and let us know.

Should I leave out DivX 4?

Hi all
Just reformatted my drive for fresh OS. Before I reinstall GKnot and DivX5, I have a couple questions, please. When I install GKnot, should I uncheck DivX4.11 and only install DivX3.11? Then install DivX5.02, which will cover all 3 until I do the reg. change for DivX3.11 to play DivX3 DivXs.
Also, DivX5.02 is fine for play back of DivX4 movies, correct?
Thanks for the help.

Is there a SIMPLE way to switch codecs?

I asked this question in the ZoomPlayer forum and was referred here...
My preference had been to use XviD, instead of DivX, since uManiac updates the codec so frequently. (Talk about fritterware! How can it be so complicated to have fun watching movies!)

patch

Here is a solution for all OS.
You needn't change the registry, just change the byte in the decompressor itself.

DivX 3.x Decompressor-Priority-Patch

FileName : divx_c32.ax
FileSize : 240.400 Bytes
FileVersion : 4.1.0.3917

0. If you are running Win9x then go to Windows\System
If you are running Win2k/XP then go to Windows\system32

1. deregister the current decompressor :
regsvr32 /u divx_c32.ax

2. change one byte in the file with an hex-editor
Offset 0xc4a (dezimal 3146)
change 80 to 90

3. register the patched decompressor :
regsvr32 /s divx_c32.ax

thats all

Maybe you have another version of the decompressor,
then you must search for 'div3' (lowercase, without '),
and substract 174 (dezimal) of the offset where the strin 'div3' was found.

In my version the offset of 'div3' is 0xcf8 (3320 dezimal).
3320 minus 174 is 3146 (dezimal) converted to hex : 0xc4a

'div3' is found 6 times, you must use the first one (lowest offset).

If you aren't firm in using an hex-editor,
I can make a patch or upload the patched version of the decompressor (look at geil.webpark.cz).
I also will integrate that patched decompressor in my filter-pack.

Thanks so much, Mr. Tsunami!

I checked back not really expecting anything. I do think this is important for advancing the OpenSource XviD project! Bests, Nigel L
