The Forum / Site Suggestions & Help sub-section is as good a place as any...

I think it's the idea that it relies on a specific piece of knowledge. It's a fine way to weed out bots but it also excludes humans, particularly those who want to come here to learn.

Quote:
name a popular mpeg-4 encoder gui that is beign [sic] discussed on this forum
Yeah, see I don't know that either.

Quote:
what software is the most popular thread in the development forum about?
LameXP... only you can't see that if you're not logged in, because by default it only shows you a single thread. And I have no idea if that question/answer is even up to date...

Quote:
What is the name of the script-based frame server used for processing/filtering video?
Avisynth. Or is it VapourSynth?

Quote:
name a popular mpeg-4 asp encoder
No idea. Is there more than one? If there is more than one, will any answer do, or is it expecting a particular answer?

Quote:
name a popular video player supported on this board
Uh... how is anyone supposed to know which answer is expected?

A hint that you can refresh the page to get a different question would be nice, but even nicer would be a proper CAPTCHA. Even a basic homebrew one with a handful of static images should be good enough.

Ok, I understand.

For such "bot" messages, there is alsways the possibility of clicking upon
What happens next is debatable, but at least the mods have been informed about.

Luckily when I joined the forum these security questions did not exist yet. I also doubt the usefulness of these questions, the waiting period before you can post should be enough to keep the trolls and bots out.

Sometimes I can't help the feeling that this is part of a certain "elitist" attitude, that novices are not really welcome here, let them go to VideoHelp instead...

I agree, the questions are 'a bit' outdated. Removed that requirement to register.
