mplayer with AAC in ADTS container?

Is mplayer capable of playing back AAC audio in an ADTS container? I'm trying to playback (unencrypted) audio from DVB-S and get errors like this:

Code:
FAAD: error: First SBR frame is not the same as first AAC frame, trying to resync!
FAAD: Failed to decode frame: First SBR frame is not the same as first AAC frame
FAAD: error: Channel coupling not yet implemented, trying to resync!
I know there is some audio in there because I can hear short clips of talking. I checked the mplayer mailing list and there were a few others with problems like this over the years but no definitive answer. I also tried to capture the audio with -dumpaudio and then play it back with faad but had the same results.
