Voy Tunable Eye Glasses [adjustable focus]

These look interesting, for those of us with lousy eyesight.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/tech/137062...sses-ces-2021/
HomeSite [has some FAQ's on it]:- https://voyglasses.com/

Cheap too, $79 (£59), Overpriced opticians will hate these
One pair to rule them all.

Quote:
THE days of swapping between multiple pairs of glasses could soon be over.

A company has unveiled "adjustable" specs that the wearer can tune on the fly based on what they're using them for.

With the twist of a dial, users can adjust the focus to swap between reading, driving, screen use and more, The Times reports.

US firm Voy reckons the tech, which it calls "nano-precision glasses", will spell the end of requiring several pairs of specs for different activities.

Costing $79 (£59) a pop, the Voy Tunable Glasses can adjust the focus level anywhere between -5D to +2D.

"Turn the wheel away from the nose to for a more negative power, or turn the wheel towards the nose for a more positive power until you can see clearly," Voy writes on its website.
Quote:
Voy glasses started life on crowd-funding site Kickstarter in early 2020 and began shipping late last year.
Quote:
The company is now developing a $200 (£148) pair of tuneable sunglasses that work in a similar way.
Quote:
The specs are on display at the CES 2021 tech showcase in Las Vegas, which kicks off Monday, January 11. [EDIT: Today]

I'm not gonna get a pair just yet, I'll wait till they appear on Amazon. [I limit the number of on-line outlets I use/trust]
EDIT: They are not on amazon.co.uk at the moment, but they are available for purchase on their Canadian homesite.
EDIT: The Sun says is US company, I was going by FireFox Addon FlagFox showing Canadian flag for homesite URL.

Luckily I don't have to wear glasses just yet.
I will in the future as it's inevitable but thankfully I can still go out and about, drive, read and watch TV without anything.
I gotta say though that my eyesight has fallen during the years, in fact it's been a while since I had 11/10 as I now have just 10/10 and I'm afraid it will slip to 9/10 very very soon...

~98.0% of the population [that previously had good eyes] need reading glasses at about the age of 44 [+/- a couple of years].
For me it was about 44 years exactly.
Science don't really know why the lens stays soft/supple for the remaining 2.0% [leastwise, when I read up on the subject, @ about 44 Y.O].
[I used to be able to hit a bull @ about 300 yards, without telescopic sights, sadly not now].

No, thats actually the reason I pointed out the FAQ's on homesite.
If you once had reasonable eyes, did not need specs prior to about 44, or there was nothing special about your prescription
then should be ok, but read the FAQ's on homesite.

EDIT: An image on homesite shows adjustment wheel for each eye.

Quote:
Can VOY glasses correct for astigmatism ?
Quote:
No, VOY glasses do not currently correct for astigmatism.
Glasses must have a coating, as are particular about how cleaned. [EDIT: Lens itself is Polycarbonate]
Quote:
How do I take care of my VOY glasses ?
Quote:
To clean your VOY glasses, use a microfiber cloth or pre-moistened lens wipe.
For stubborn smudges, use a lens spray that does not contain ammonia.
Do not use clothing, tissues, or running water to clean your VOY glasses.
When you're not using your VOY glasses, store them in a case.
Try not leave them in extreme temperatures (such as inside a car on a hot day).
Features, from homesite.
Quote:
Tunable lens.
Large field of view.
Nano Precision.
Aspherical lens.
Anti reflection.
UV blocker.
Anti Scratch.
Blue blocker. # [blue-ish light emitted from monitor - bad for eyes]
Anti Fingerprint.

Arh yes, I see them now also on Amazon.co.uk but not Voy brand. [searching "adjustable eye glasses"]

Here is 1st review of 1st pair [about $13.00 canadian] on Canadian Amazon, that I looked at.
Quote:
They just don't work. the adjuster moves the lenses but at no point is anything clear. you could never use these for reading, or anything else. I was really hopefull as i would love glasses that the focal point could be changed, nearer or farther. Maybe some other design will work. I will keep trying. But this try was a big failure.
I'm trusting that Voy is a bit better as showing at CES 2021 Las Vegas.

EDIT: Also, I dont think The-Times would give them any space if rubbish:- https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/a...ocus-mqhnfvlm7

I wasn't prepared. I thought it was one of those things that only happened to other people. Had someone told me a few years ago I'd be wearing grandpa glasses to read the writing on medicine bottles, or the cooking instructions on food etc, I would've laughed.
Fortunately the computer monitor still sits just outside the no-focus zone. Hopefully it'll stay there.

That would actually be "bullseye" rather than bull, with the old 7.62 SLR.
EDIT: Although, once I was on a range and somebody shot a sheep, you cannot really do that by accident.
EDIT: However, given my eyes right now, maybe you can do it by accident.
