It's much better to use the SHA1 hash values to cheack for duplicate entries.
"TitleSorter.hta" could probably be upgraded to also check for duplicate hash entries.

The same title can potetially have two or different hash values + matching keys, for example for different regions. In this case it's ok to have more than one entry with the same tilte, they will still have different hash values and keys. The title name isn't really importan, it's just for you own reference, BackupHDDVD does not use the title name for anything. Instead BackupHDDVD computes the hash value from the inserted disc and find the corresponding key from the same line as the matching hash value is entered in the KEYDB.cg file. The program doesn't care what titles names you give to the different hashes. You could call all entires "Movie 1" and the program would still work. The titles are only there so you can see what movies you have entered, if you make a spelling error in the title it doesn't really matter.
To remove duplicates it's much better to look for duplicatehash values in the .cfg file.
Of course if you manually want to check for duplicates it would be best if all titltles were like on imdb, but the process could be automated in "TitleSort.hta" and in this case it's much easier and precise to check for duplicates of hash values. The larger the database gets, the more it would be needed to automate the duplicate control. Althoguh I think the program would still work even if there's duplicates in the .cfg, then it would proabbly just use the first entry of the matching hash entry and never see the duplicate of it urther down the list.

Looks like the Volume Key deluge has slowed. Please keep them coming - more great titles we need to have on the hard disk (Dune, Hulk, Fearless etc..)

TIA

My javascript Title sorter is pretty much done.

TitleSorter.hta v1.2
Just put it in the same folder as your keydb.cfg

You should start with this keydb.cfg v1.2

Swordfish and Training Day

Look below for updated keys.

These are the keys. It decrypts fine but can't playback cuz of the IME I think. Unless there is another explanation? These are Warner movies btw.

Interesting statement ... how do you know it is decrypted fine if it does not playback? What other method do you have to test this?

I know this is a sticky related to volum unique keys but..was wondering if anybody had a problem with Superman Returns. I backed up my hd-dvd and all seems well except the 2nd .evo file will NOT play back in 5.1 (coaxial/spdif through motherboard). Everything else plays fine (Powerdvd 6.5) but when I go to the 2nd .evo file, I just get a bunch of noise. If I drop it down to 2 speakers, it will play though.

Thanks in advance.

It appears PDVD 6.5 is the choice

european keys

hi,

please add some keys for european movies, because mi1-3 and kingkong seems not to work for me with US-Keys. I can't find the keys by my own, because windvd8 didn't work for me.

Because BackupHDDVD said so.
King Kong decrypted fine and I could play it albeit with artifacts and skipping. Quite a few movies have this issue it seems.

What does playback look like? If it plays with stuttering and audio issues, then it decrypted, and its an IME issue.
If you get a black screen, then the key is not valid, and you decrypted garbage.

It was black screen. Took your advice and redid it with a different set of keys and it works now. Thanks so much.

To verify this just check the EAN/UPC codes on the disk/case. The keys seem to be hashed from manufacturer IDs, too.

BackupHDDVD does not check the result of decryption at all, so it can never say that decryption was succesfull. You only know that the data has been decrypted with a key, but you will not be sure if it was the correct key ... until you can playback properly.

That would be a cool feature to have though. I have updated the keys. Tested and working fine now. Thanks.

On another note:
I think the following is a very good example of a compatibility list. Maybe http://www.hdkeys.com could incorporate some of the features/ideas.

But doesn't a valid decrypted output contain some well-known characteristics, like patterns in the video stream that must be there to conform to the standard? So just check for those, if the key was wrong you won't find them.
