The majority of Blu-rays seem to have too low a sound level for me -- so I boosted it as the default. I know it is advertised as wider dynamic range... but to me it's just low volume.

Thanks for the boost, as it also seems to me that most have low volume, but except for those that have the crisp and higher volume sound of a LPCM track.

Yes, that is true. Especially Dolby True HD tracks. I will set AUDIO_AMPLIFY=1.1 for a 10 % and see. The 20% boost, along
with audyssey dynamic EQ enabled in my AV processor, makes it a bit too loud for me.

Hi all
For a while ive had a few problems with some blurays. All the Torchwood discs, Earth D1, Natures Great Events... and very recently Terminator Sarah Conner Season2 Disc5. Most of those discs are BBC releases. The only common thing about them is they have 1080i video in them. This is what i got with the fifth disc of Terminator

[12:50:43] - Failed video encode, aborted

Any ideas??? Only the 3rd video (in the terminator disc) is 1080i - the rest are 1080p.
Thanks

Any time you see the "Encode failed" it is almost a sure thing that you don't have FFDSHOW configured properly. In XP make sure you either have WMV11 installed and selected "disabled" for VC-1 decoding or (alternatively) you can select "wmv9" as the default decoder for VC-1. Also -- make sure H.264/AVC uses "libavcodec".

Ensure you have downloaded and are using the versions of FFDSHOW and HAALI linked in the first post of this thread. People sometimes have a tendency to update to newer untested versions that have bugs that cause encode issues.

I just checked my settings and I had ffmpeg-mt for H.264/AVC on two computers I use, and changed it to libavcodec just now even though I have never experienced any issues albeit I only did 6 backups so far with whole disc backup failing to play on all my three blu-ray players.
What decoder is to be selected for MPEG2? libmpeg2 is selected by default now. Thanks.

Here's an FYI, jdobbs:

=================

[19:39:14] BD Rebuilder v0.31.05 (beta)
- Source: LIVE_AT_RAH_D1_2006_DOLBY_TRUE_HD_43917MB

- Resuming from previously started job.

- Bitrate: 13,940 Kbs
- [19:39:17] Reencoding: VID_00000, Pass 2 of 2
- [11:02:56] Video Encode complete
- [11:02:56] Reencoding audio tracks (if req'd)

- [11:15:10] Extracting A/V streams [VID_00001]
- Error in attempt to MKVMERGE.
[11:29:44] - Failed to retrieve audio, aborted

This was caused by running out of "workfiles" HDD space during the demux.

Don't know if that error has ever been questioned before, but that's the (or at least a potential) cause.

Good to know. Thanks. Yes -- it was reported further back in this thread and I never was able to figure what could have caused it.

ffmpeg-mt should be okay as well -- I believe that's a multi-threaded codec, so it should theoretically be a little faster on multicore computers. But I tested it on my quad-core and it ran almost exactly the same speed as libavcodec.

ffmpeg-mt should be fine for MPEG-2.

The only issues I usually see reported are with VC-1. The exception would be when nothing is selected for AVC or MPEG-2.

I have the same problem with the Pirates of Caribbean (all movies). Just see, and I have the FFDSHOW configured properly like you said.

You could try installing just the Microsoft VC-1 codec pack. I'd suggest using BD_Info to verify the movie uses VC-1 and if it does, try what fixed the same issue for me on XP Pro SP3.
http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?...postcount=6433

After installing the VC-1 codecs from the MSDN link, I can set ffdshow VC-1 to disabled or WMV9 and both settings work. I can also play m2ts files using Windows Media Player 10.

New potential problem??

Have been noticing that playback of my backed up movies, compressed from up to 50 gig to 25 gig, seem that the dark scenes are really dark with no detail. Am playing on Panny 58V10 via Panny bd60 player. Is it me or should I be adjusting settings when compressing? Am trying to avoid changing settings on player or TV at this point.

Anyone else notice this problem??

TIA

I haven't. I had an issue many versions ago where there was some blockiness in dark areas (when using "Fastest" encode). But that went away with X264 updates.

But your settings are most likely the problem. Find some black level calibration images on one of your DVDs (any THX dvd has them) and make certain your player and TV are on the same page.

Make sure you blacks are not crushed. Use a calibration disc to set your black level to the correct level.

BD Rebuilder v0.31.06 (beta)

I have updated the first post of this thread with a link to a new version of BD-RB (v0.31.06). The changes for this release are:
Code:
- Modified the "High Speed Option (BD-25)" setting so
that it now includes b-frames in its output.
- Default CRF values for BD-5/9/25 under "Quick Encode"
mode has changed to 30/25/22 to approximate quality on
extras. They can, of course, be overridden using the
  QUICK_CRF=nn hidden command.
- Corrected an error in which the overall status bar was
not being updated correctly when one-pass ABR mode was
  selected.
- Added additional error checks and reporting following
  a failed encode.
- Corrected an error in which updated MPLS files were
not being properly copied to the BACKUP\PLAYLIST
  directory.
- Updated the included version of X264.EXE to the
  latest release (r1376 w/nal-hrd patch).
- Other minor corrections and cosmetic fixes.

@jdobbs

Am I correct in understanding that v.0.31.06 (beta) does not fix the "HD_Compliant"/x264 issue that arose several versions ago?
