Hi everybody!
Please I need your help to back to "compressed files world".
In the past I used Megui to work video individually.
The last years I've been completely out and I have to start from 0 to compress some big files in mkv.
What is the best program to compressed video? , audio?.

I'd like to try compress with x265 but I don't know if it is possible with my laptop:
Intel Core i5 -2430M CPU 2.40ghz . 6 ram, windows 7 64 bits.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Universal GUIs which can use x264 and x265 for compression, diverse audio compression and mux into .mkv:
MeGUI, StaxRip.
Video compression only:
Simple x264/x265 Launcher, RipBot.
If x265 AND Intel Core i5-2430M: You might just need a bit more patience...

This is not true.
For example: Ripbot gets a lot facilties hidden under the engine hood.
And the Simple x264/x265 Launcher works on Avisynth scripts too...
StaxRip & Hybrid are the champs in options/scopes,
and need a more steep learning curve .
I'm using MeGui, Staxrip and Ripbot.
Why?
Because I'm used to it.

Hybrid? I never heard about it.
Ok, so ... I'm going to install MeGui and StaxRip (I could try with Hybrid as well, but I'm beginner) , can you help me to configurate them?

I have a .mkv of 27gb, I'd like to compress using x265 and get a file of less than 5gb , is it possible get a new file with a good quality? what options should I to select? Just for video, audio will be working separately.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Don't use Staxrip, you'll get confuse in seconds. Simple x264/x265 Launcher is the better choice here, simple and user friendly.

I use MEGUI, but I think HandBrake is supposed to be very easy to use (although oldish I think),
dont know if supports x265 (which I dont use, not supported properley in my Android player MX Player, well seeking not supported for x265).

EDIT: I think Handbrake CLI is sometimes updated [which may mean just update the CLI part for GUI to be current].

Is there maybe something specific that is confusing?

Some areas are better than others and there is no real documentation except an old but good tutorial in German language.

All tools have their issues, I can't even examine many, for instance all of Mulders tools are unusable on 288 DPI and Ripbot264 extracts with error exit code 2 using 7zip packer and also Windows Defender thinks it's a virus, I've not looked at it since years because in the past it asked to install things I was not willing to install like ffdshow tryouts or avisynth 2.60, I don't remember it in detail, current issue is 7zip and Windows Defender.

today obviously this is a much smaller problem than years ago. try Handbrake or Format Factory. the characteristics of your PC is enough, but the conversion may take some time

Also you can try Format Factory. It's an open source computer program that can convert any video, audio or image format. It compresses video files easily.
Format Factory works with fast speed, no quality loss.

1. Not open source
2. Adware
3. Listed in ffmpeg hall of shame

New file, yes. Good quality, depends on your standards.
