For HTPCs, if Madshi at some point decides to sell a madVR license for a couple hundred bucks I wouldn't protest that at all, especially if it means we'd then receive periodic updates. This would be a separate revenue stream for madVR, especially if Madshi (or someone else with the know-how) released a KODI 18.x or newer build compatible with madVR for those of us willing to rip our own physical media and put up with all the headaches that can come with HTPCs (I'm now at 40TB that store all my Blurays and 4K films, all purchased, many from the second hand market to keep costs as low as possible). The "madVR KODI" would be free, as it is open source, but the madVR portion would not be.
As enticing as Envy is, it is a niche hardware product that is well out of reach for 99% of the folks here. For the 99% of us who rely on our HTPC, I'm sure that a significant number would likewise be willing to purchase an HTPC madVR license. |

Disney seems to disagree with us about the future usefulness of madvr. sigh. They just announced they're no longer releasing live action movies from Disney or Fox to physical 4K media. I guess they want to push their Disney+ service even harder. This is likely the start of a very nasty trend for those of us who prefer to rip our physical media to a NAS to run it through madvr. The Envy is designed around this streaming future.

Hello,
Hoping maybe someone can help, I've been doing 3d mvc for years now with madvr and lav filters on my desktop and lately just using kodi dsplayer with madvr. I bought two laptops to test and one of them I installed kodi dsplayer and madvr and boom 3d is playing like it should. The other laptop no matter what I do it doesn't work. Both windows 10. 3d display at 1920 is set on both. The working one is a 1920 display laptop. The one that doesn't work has a 4k display on the laptop, don't know if that makes a difference. They are both using intel UHD graphics 620 I believe. Asus flipbook 14 works Dell 7391 does not. Both latest intel I7 10th gen processors. Any ideas? |

We're not sure, but as of now it's just on hold. Madshi has spent the last year or so working on a hardware device called Envy. It can be attached to any TV or projector (no computer or graphics card needed) and will provide video rendering even better than madVR from any input source, including streaming. All this comes at a cost, however; apparently $10K or higher.
Madshi has started a company to manufacture and sell the Envy. His business partners apparently object to having madVR continue, feeling it will cut into the market for Envy. You can learn more about Envy at the company's website, https://www.madvrlabs.llc/. We're all waiting to find out what happens to madVR. Last edited by jkauff; 12th August 2020 at 10:11. |
