DVD/DV file stutters when deinterlaced?
Hello, dear community.
I've got a really annoying problem bringing a DV file to DVD. The DV file is interlaced and has been captured with a Sony camcorder. When I play the file in VLC or the Windows Media Player, it runs fine ... as long as deinterlacing is not activated. When I turn deinterlacing on, the playback stutters heavily. Now I've transcoded the file with AVStoDVD to a DVD image. When I mark the title (my DV file) as interlaced and create a DVD image, this ISO features no interlacing but stutters in VLC and WMP. When I don't mark it as interlaced, the ISO is interlaced but runs smoothly in VLC and WMP. But when I put it into my standalone DVD player, it stutters again. Maybe because the player tries to deinterlace it? Your help would be very appreciated. I'm slowly freaking out. The Brighter Writer |

It could depends by a lot of things:
- When you mark the file as interlaced, are you encoding as topfield or bottomfield. Generally DV is bottomfield. If you set the wrong field, the playback will be jerky - Other interlaced files plays smooth on VLC and WMP? - Setting an interlaced file as progressive, it's an error. The standalone players will assume the file as progressive so the playback will stutters (this explain your latest statement) So first of all you need to check if your DV file was correctly encoded (bottomfield interlaced?). |

It's because the normal deinterlacing process assumes TFF while DV is BFF.
Besides, have you used search, because this topic was discussed in the past, also there are guides how to transfer DV to DVD. It stutters because of the deinterlacing. Leave it deinterlaced for DVD player (but remember the BFF issue). |
