I see from some posts that this issue is not just with me as other BD30 and BD50 users have had similar experiences also.

Will now roll forward and test v0.31.08 (beta)....
Hi jdobbs,

Now rolled forward to v0.31.08 (beta).... and playback is still working again on the BD35 SAP and so x264 r1400 is working OK.

So the issue seems to be from v0.32.01 (beta) and after and so either the x264 version r1442 or the added code to append ExtensionData() information to AVCHD output (BD-5/9) movie-only encodes is the issue...

Hi jdobbs,

Next test was to see if it’s the new code or x264.

I used again v0.32.03 (beta) and not using the optional switch of “FIX_MOVIEONLY=0” i.e. the new code is used.

I then replaced the x264 r1442 from v0.32.03 (beta) with the x264 r1400 from v0.31.08.

Interestingly I noticed the file size of r1442 was very big at 6.8MB compared to the 1.1MB (typical x264 file size) of r1400.

So I ran the same project with the hybrid version of v0.32.03 (beta) and success.. playback is still working again on the BD35 SAP.

So the issue seems to be from the x264 version r1442 and not your added code to append ExtensionData() information to AVCHD output (BD-5/9) movie-only encodes...

I will make 1 final test just to double check all my findings and run with v0.32.03 (beta) with the original x264 r1442 just to be sure...

Thanks. I wonder what could have been introduced in X264 that might have that kind of effect? Wierd. Version 1462 has just been released. I'll go through the change logs and see if there was something fixed that might have been related.

Good analysis and reporting. Much appreciated.

As an additional test do you think you could try this build of x264 and see how well it does? It's the latest (r1462) with the nal-hrd patch.

Recent versions of x264 include interfaces into the FFMPEG libraries for reading/writing many sources and containers. Some only reference the DLL, others actually include it in the compile. Most of the patched versions include it, and that's what makes it so much bigger.

Since I don't have a player that has issues, I'd appreciate it if you could try one more thing. Download this version of x264. It is directly from the x264 site and doesn't include patches. In order to make it work you need to add USE_NAL_HRD=0 to the options area of the BD-RB INI file.

Please make sure you are placing the file in the right place and renaming it to x264.exe... the error 53/2810 means it "can't find specified file" -- which could mean the source or the exe in the command line.

Hi jdobbs,

X264.exe is defiantly in the correct location, I copy and paste over the top of the old file to make sure both file name and location are the same.

I have repeated two times now a run with the patched r1462 and in-between installed the working r1400 just to make sure to check encoding starts ok. Both times now the patched r1462 crashes at encode start for error 53/2810.

I am now running the non patched r1462 + the optional switch of USE_NAL_HRD=0 and encoding is now running OK.

I Will report back once the encode is finished as to the BD35’s ability to play the DVD or not.

FYI - I have now repeated two times (so as to double check) the following scenarios and both come out with the same results:

- V0.32.03 (beta) + x264 r1400 = OK BD35 SAP playability

- V0.32.03 (beta) + x264 r1442 = NO BD35 SAP playability (plays ok in pc based powerDVD 9)

Thanks, I'd like to get this issue put to bed.

I still don't understand why it would get the 53/2810 error, though.

If the newer version you are running now works, I will post an update that will use the new patched version.

The V0.32.03 (beta) + x264 non patched r1462 + “USE_NAL_HRD=0” encode will be finished in 30mins...

Will the update still be able to run 2 pass encoding instead of the 1 pass CRF I am using at the momoment to save time for results etc as I prefer 2 pass for good final file size and PQ

So:

I have the following "problem" with 0.32.03:

done two conversion with it so far

- FULL movie BD25 works fine

- MOVIE only BD9 plays fine with software players but playing the material burned (for testing purposes) to a BD-RE i am NOT able to fast forward/backward or jump to any chapter

the picture freezes, sound goes on

used 31.06 afterwards and the same movie plays fine again

@Discoboy

I've modified the exe to add the additional parameter to nal-hrd. Please download from this link and try running it without the USE_NAL_HRD=0 parameter. Hopefully that means that X264 r1462 fixed whatever was causing the issue -- if not, then I know it has something to do with the NAL-HRD patched version.

Thanks.

@DK

Please try this version also.

Most of the time that's not a good test. Players can sometimes get past bad portions because it really doesn't matter that much -- but it's different when you have to decode and reencode it.

I'm sure I changed something but not sure why this is happening. When I convert movie only it no longer puts the certificate folder in the new folder it creates. I took a chance not knowing if it would work but it did and I copied the original certificate to the new folder and burned it and it worked fine. Any idea why it stopped doing it on its own?

1.pass run and passed well.
2.pass x264.exe starts and dont encode..it freeze

i've rerun this project 4x times and everytime the same shit.

But As i switched to bd25 backup everything works fine, and both passes completed sucessfull and now rebuilding is in progress.

Well since the new version works without NAL-HRD, that means it has to be the patch or the build that is causing the problem.

Damn.

I'm going to take the NAL-HRD requirement out. The fact is that TSMUXER will add it, but I wanted to use the patch because the way it does it is more compliant.

It sure doesn't seem to be true with the latest versions though. I'm pulling the plug on X264's NAL-HRD for a now.

The patch isn't done yet. When it's done, it will work.
