My favourite American misinterpretation (of which there are quite a few) of an English word is the word 'fanny', where they sort of got it totally back-to-front
(as it were)

One day we will take back, that which is rightfully ours.
[Unfortunately, they managed to syphon off all of our gold, soup kitchens were well gone before Pearl Harbour. (bombs & bullets @ vastly inflated price)]

BBC uses "25i" terminology. They are not "no one". You might even argue they created the standard
How is it 25i if my monitor is showing 60p?

All content is 60p. Some just looks worse than others.

That's explain your ignorance in this topic...

Many AVCHD camcorders have 1080p50 mode in pal land. Similar story with dashboard car cameras.

Pretty much any European TV is capable of properly displaying 25fps, 50fps, as well as 23.976fps, 29.97fps and 59.94fps material all with no stutter.
