P.S. your HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Gabest\Media Player Classic\ExePath string is with or without ""?
There is no reg key for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AVStoDVD

I manually created it and also PreviewerPathName under it. I entered exact the same value as for ExePath (there are no quotes). Then I execute AVStoDVD with admin rights but no luck. It still crashes when hitting the checkbox.
I cannot enter the value manually into Preview Player Path unser Pref/Path because the textbox is disabled as long as the checkbox is not set

@Mr. Monte

let's wait for AC3Filter uninstalled test.

Before uninstalling AC3Filter, if you load the mkv into GraphEdit and press 'Render Media File', what does the audio path say?

@ggtop

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AVStoDVD key is created at first Preferences 'save as default' or if a DVD Menu is created. Of course I'm talking about W2k, XP or Vista. W7 is still a mystery to me

my dear... of course... I remember some old bios asking you to press F1 to continue when no keyboard was found during bootstrap...

If you cannot solve the reg key issue, please wait for next release with the GUI bugfix. BTW thanks for reports.

AC3 Filter - damn..never used the graphedit SW. So, is it AC3Filter that is resetting FDShow to 2/0/0? If so, can I fix it WITHOUT removing AC3Filter?

Thanks for your help..I like learning

No, never said that. ffdshow mixer is reset to 2/0/0 by AVStoDVD at the end of the encoding process, IF at the beginning it was at 2/0/0 AND if the 'Preferences'/'Misc'/'Adjust ffdshow at runtime' is on.

Yes, by setting AC3Filter mixer to 5+1.

BTW if you use GraphEdit and render your mkv, you will get what decoder you are using (ffdshow or AC3Filter). Example:

I found regkeys under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\AVStoDVD,
HKEY_USERS\...\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\AVStoDVD
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\AVStoDVD

Entering the value manually lets AVStoDVD crash as soon as I hit the preferences button.

W7 is also mysterious to me...

All other keys in the A2D branches seem to look fine..OutputPath, LocalAppDataPath etc.

Thanks for the W7 registry report. I suspect that W7 redirect HKLM\SOFTWARE\AVStoDVD to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\AVStoDVD.

BTW I'm planning to install a virtual machine to test W7 interactions with AVStoDVD ASAP. Until that, I cannot declare that W7 is supported.

No need to hurry.. I have 2 machines running XP left

And I have another problem.
I want to convert my avis (DV) to DVD.
I'm only testing in the moment and use short clips.

I made a DVD with motion menu yesterday at home (XPSP3). Worked fine
Today I tried to do exactly the same on the other machine (XPSP3), but it didn't work ???
QuEnc created a 0kb .m2v for the menu and then muxman fails.

I didn't find a log for QuEnc but the .avs file for the menu seems to be OK.

ggtop

Edit: I found that QuEnc fails if "enable multithread.." is checked. I have a P4 3.4 GHz...
Edit2: But QuEnc stills fails on creating the motion menu m2v ???

@ggtop

if you try to run the menu avs file with VirtualDub or MPC, does it work?

Any differences in codecs on the 2 machines?

QuEnc should not crash depending to the multithread on/off. Moreover multithread is activated IF option is on AND if more cores/cpus are detected.

This doesn't make sense to me either.

I just made a DVD with 1 clip and motion menu on W7 64bit (Intel Centrino Duo). I used HCEnc 2 pass (for the title).

As AVS Source I use AviSource because I installed Cedocida DV Codec and that's a VfW Codec. AviSource uses VfW, right?

Everything's fine.

This configuration is exactly the same on my other machines.

I tried different settings earlier on my P4 3.4GHz (Hyperthreading?) under XP SP2:
- Title encoding ALWAYS works with HCEnc
- Title encoding ONLY works with QuEnc if "Enable Multithreading" is disabled

- MotionMenu encoding NEVER works with QuEnc (menu.avs plays fine with MPC-HC, so I assume it's not codec-related)

I also uninstalled and reinstalled AVStoDVD...

My third machine runs XP SP3 on an old AMD Athlon 2400+. Everything fine there (except encoding time )

Probably there is a sort of incompatibility between QuEnc and your system multithread encoding. Is P4 Hyperthread troubling QuEnc? Maybe.

By default, I have left multithread encoding always ON during menu creation step. Next release will adapt to Advanced Option setting.

How do you enable Multithreading for Quenc?
Via Commandline or in AviSynth?

Is there a way for me in the current release to disable it?

Fade In/Out in Motion Menu

Hi Mrc,

I don't think it's a bug, but it is a little annoying. I just created a test DVD with 1 title and used FadeIn/Out via avisynth option. And I selected motion menu. In this case the fading also appears on the menu page. This doesn't look nice when all thumbnails come up slowly from black.

Do you feel encouraged to change this behaviour? Maybe it would be an good idea to take the part of the video beyond selected fade-in time...

ggtop

BTW No issues with QuEnc under Win7 64bit & Centrino Duo.

Unfortunately it is not possible. But 2.3.2 is not so far...

Well, it's really not a bug, since menu thumbs take the corresponding title avs script as it is (just size is adjusted).

Somebody would say that remove a fading effect is good and somebody would say it is bad. I think that leaving it is better than removing it at all.

I would prefer to give the option to tweak the thumb avs script during DVD Menu editing. What do you think?

Thanks for the feedback. It would be great if anybody else with a P4 HT could give us a feedback on motion menu creation as well.

That's OK. Would it be possible that customize dialog pops up right after starting (and after the "normal" encoder params)? So I don't have to get up at night

Thank you for your great app and for your continous work on it.

When will 2.3.2 be released. I want to bore my family with weddings and birthday parties

do you mean the dialog windows to edit the cmd parameters? Ok, I will put in the ToDo list.

2.3.2 is almost ready. Just some beta testing with my set of sample clips. Probably next week it will be out.

That's what I meant. Maybe you should think about an upgrade for your 1800+. Your sample files will encode a lot quicker then and 2.3.2 comes earlier

LOL

Well, my usual PC, where I do most of A2D development, is a core2 duo centrino T8300. The Athlon 1800+ is used mainly as printer and files server. Anyway I'm seriously considering to upgrade it, because even latest web flash apps run slooooowly...
