Ideal encoding settings for a 3D animated show
Hi, I'm new to the forums and x265 in general.
I have this show (The Penguins of Madagascar) at 4000+ kbps x264 and I want to re-encode it using x265 at less than 2000 kbps. Since I'm a newb, I don't understand most of the settings and which of them are good for a 3D animated show so I need some help. Here's the MediaInfo for one of the files: General Unique ID : 240204717135811748117827594427288083215 (0xB4B5BEE991DF815092064BF9CFCD5B0F) Complete name : D:\The Penguins of Madagascar\Season 1\S01E37 - All King, No Kingdom.mkv Format : Matroska Format version : Version 4 / Version 2 File size : 365 MiB Duration : 10 min 59 s Overall bit rate : 4 636 kb/s Encoded date : UTC 2014-08-20 21:33:27 Writing application : mkvmerge v6.9.1 ('Blue Panther') 64bit built on Apr 18 2014 18:23:38 Writing library : libebml v1.3.0 + libmatroska v1.4.1 Video ID : 2 Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : High@L4 Format settings, CABAC : Yes Format settings, ReFrames : 4 frames Codec ID : V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC Duration : 10 min 59 s Width : 1 912 pixels Height : 1 072 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate mode : Constant Frame rate : 23.976 FPS Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 Bit depth : 8 bits Scan type : Progressive Language : English Default : Yes Forced : No Color range : Limited Color primaries : BT.709 Transfer characteristics : BT.709 Matrix coefficients : BT.709 Audio ID : 1 Format : AAC Format/Info : Advanced Audio Codec Format profile : LC Codec ID : A_AAC Duration : 10 min 59 s Channel(s) : 2 channels Channel positions : Front: L R Sampling rate : 48.0 kHz Frame rate : 46.875 FPS (1024 spf) Compression mode : Lossy Delay relative to video : 14 ms Language : English Default : Yes Forced : No |

I'd start with --preset slower --tu-intra 4 --tu-inter 4.
For "less than 2000 Kbps" you could do --crf 23 --vbv-maxrate 2000 --vbv-bufsize 12000. 2-pass is way better if you want a real cap on bitrate. Alternatively, you can find the CRF that gives you the quality you want the size you want. |
