convert mov to avi

How can I convert QuickTime-Movie files (*.mov files) to another format (eg. avi or mpeg)

Is there a freeware program which can do this?

You also might wanna check out rad video tools, this also offers a MOV to AVI converter, but you must already have quicktime installed for it to work.

I _detest_ quicktime and anyone who saves porn in mov should have their balls cut orf :P

i used to use a great program for it, i have the originaly .mov file and the .avi file from it, but i cant remember what i used.
i just then tried Mov2avi with the same source and it came out terrible

; nothing like what i did last time,

maybe i used RadTools
(done a reformat since then so havent got it installed

)

any more programs to sue for this kinda conversion??

What about tmpgenc? I think that there is a plugin in the download area of this site that allows you to open them in it. In the newer versions of tmpgenc you can output to an avi, but I can't confirm that it works or how well it works since I have an old version of tmpg.

File -> Output to File -> Avi file

, I've used it many times and the only problem seems to be that TMPGEnc does not interleave the a/v. Direct Stream coping the avi file with VirtualDub fixes that.

You can also use the TMPGEnc VFAPI plugin with AVISynth if you want. You will most likely need to flip the video though... also it outputs at like 600fps. Other than that it works fine.

For today's standards VidCoder and RipBot are maybe the most beginner friendly apps.
