HDR PC and KS 8000
Hie to everyone. I'm just register because I have some issues and questions about HDR on PC. I was reading the topic (madVR mostly ) but it's old now and some update and driver have been coming out since.
Before saying anything here is my gear : Samsung KS 8000 (EU) PC with WIN 10, GTX 1070, 16go DDR4, R7 1700x I have some issue with my game when I tried to put them in HDR. They turned a little green/yellow and to dark and bright at the same time. I have check my Nvidia control panel and my res is on 4k 60 hz so I have HDMI 2.0 I guess (indeed HDR seems to work well with my PS4 pro) RGB, 8 Bits complete... Why is it set to 8 bits ? I can switch to 4:4:2 10 bit but then I'm on the limited range switch... I already test it with some gradiant image in MPHC with madVR and nothing work for True HDR. Right now in rdr2 even in SDR everything look washed out compare to my PS4 PRO -Also I can't read 4k HDR youtube vid properly/without lag/sutters Do you Know why ? 2kHDR running smooth... What can I do ? (greetings from France and I hope my english is ok) |

a 1070 can't do VP9 profile 2 which is used by youtube to do HDR so the CPU has to decode the UHD file which it may can't do in this case.
YCbCr is always limited range which is an advantage so a colorspace mismatch like with RGB isn't possible. the lastest nvdiia driver had a bug fix for elevated black levels. 10 bit 60 HZ UHD isn't possible with HDMI 2.0 and there is absolutely no problem with 8 bit as long as you are using madVR. |

the HDMI spec allows numbers outside the limited range but the signal has to be limited range.
so yeah in the context of HDMI. encoding a full range YCbCr video with let's say x264 is fully supported and properly flagged. |

with madVR there is no luck involved playinf such files as long as they are properly flagged.
well doesn't matter anyway this was just about full range YCbCr which is not supported by HDMi and left that HDMI part out. |

Do you know if 1030 is capable decoding 4k60 4:2:0 with HDR? Or may be even 4k60 4:2:2 with HDR?

i personally would never get such a card i used a 960 with 2GB not fun even through pascal seem to do better job in this case.
outputting sure not recommended but sure it can. with madVR you should use 4K60 8 bit RGB HDR and be done. |
